Buckwheat is a LH, right? :)

Well, the rule of thumb with most dachsies is... bathe when stinky. And unless he has easy access to lots of stinky things to roll in, that shouldn't be very common at all! My guys haven't had baths in months and months- I can't even remember the last time. My girl, Geisha- has weirdly textured fur (she has a LH/wire crossed coat) that absorbs EVERYTHING- she gets quite stinky by the time she needs another trim, so I just have her bathed then, too (about every 6 weeks). :circle:

When I bathe my boys (twice a year or so), I use Crazy Dog Baby Dog shampoo. No particular reason, other than the fact that I like my boys to smell like baby powder (poor manly pups!). It's a very mild shampoo, and not so heavily scented that it's bothersome. Most shampoos labeled for dogs are fine- just stay away from flea shampoos. If Buck has sensitive skin, an oatmeal dog shampoo might help.

Some people shampoo their dogs with human shampoos- but they really do better with dog shampoos with lower PH levels. And it's not like doggie shampoo should break the bank or anything. :)

If you have trouble with matting, there are conditioning sprays on the market that work well- I have a matching baby powder one that I use on Dutch sometimes.

For my sensitive boy- I try to make bathtime as stressless as possible. I talk to him in a matter of fact tone, make sure the water is warm- but not hot, and sort of massage him as I rub the shampoo in. I use a bathtub and a large plastic drinking cup to wet and rinse. And do rinse thoroughly. Toweling off is FUN- wet weenie dogs are slippery- and usually get out of the towel wraps I try to hold them in, to SHAKE! :D

I normally take Charlie to the groomers about every 8 weeks or so. Otherwise I've tried myself twice now.

He doesn't really need it. I do it so they trim his nails. :D

I send them to the groomers every once in a while, usually to get bathed and the nails trimmed. but I bathe them at home about once a month and I really like the Cloud Star Lavender and Mint shampoo and conditioner, I've gotten it at Trader Joes but I know that they have a website. It's reasonably priced and the bottles last forever. They smell good too, always a plus!

Cricket and Bella get bathed whenever they stink. They are smooths so I don't think they need as much maintenance. I use Johnson's and Johnson's Baby Shampoo on them. The only reason I do this is because it is always on the tub shelf. Simplicity. So far, their coats are great. Shiny and healthy. I once had some dog shampoo and left it on the tub shelf. While shampooing my daughter's hair, I reach for that instead of the human stuff. Thankfully I glanced at the bottle before using it. Therefore, I use human stuff all the way around. For quick fresh ups, I use Huggies Sensitive baby wipes. Again, the simplicity of it since I also have a 2 year old.
