On our walk yesterday we saw a very grand-looking german shepherd police dog with his handler and I couldn't resist asking him if they needed anymore recruits while pointing at Shelbie. After he finished laughing, he politely declined. I think she's make a great police dog tho - surely those tripping up skills would come in handy? What do you think, Police Constable Shelbie of the Yard?

Well, since dear Endeavour Morse has passed on, I think there is an opening in the Oxford area... "Sgt. Lewis, meet your new boss, DCI Shelbie!" http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif
Oh, those big dog owners are SOOOooo snooty! But I ask you, can a German shepherd dog attack ankles and feet efficiently, thereby causing the evildoer to trip and fall, causing less police-induced damage to the perpetrator, and fewer police brutality lawsuits? I think not!!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Last night Animal Plants Breed all about it was about Dachshunds. The first story was about a dachsie who was a drug sniffing police dog!

Please, Wienergal! It's "Morse, just Morse!"
More than once when I've been walking Annie, a police car has slowed down and the cop has said, "Need any help with that animal, Ma'am?" Little do they know how much SHE could help THEM! Ankles are a very vulnerable spot, you know.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be up against a dachshund protecting his/her family members....

Oh, Shelbie, please tell me your Mum doesn't let you watch Cops...
It took me a minute or two to realize what you were singing.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

No she doesn't - says it would give me ideas...but I do watch old re-runs of Dallas with her and then toss my ears like Lucy tosses her hair. There are some very nice earrings on that show speaking of ideas but they might be too big to fit in my basket!

Have we all forgotten about the L@@K those dachsies can give? That and those piercing barks, ankles bitten, toes wrenched off, shins scratched all to bits with nasty thick toenails- just when we don't play ball with 'em!
Imagine as a "protection" trained guard dog! Brrrrrrrr!

I'll put a pack of angry, over pertective doxies up against a mean pit bull or dobie any day. The doxies will win every time.
Breed all about it was great, our low riders can out sniff any dog!

I dont know what show i was watching, but a dachsie "worked" at a police stationa and a jail, and she sniffed out drugs, and was extremely good at it. Anyway just wanted to add that a dachsie can do anything a big dog can do. And of course do it better.
