View Full Version : Our Rusty
Rusty's mom

Seeing the picture of Mason has broken through my shrouding of grief and once again my pain is fresh. I've not posted here much since summer and now feel I'm ready to tell everyone about the loss of our Rusty. He passed to the Bridge on July 19 - and our hearts and home have been shattered with his loss. I am so full of grief and miss him so much. My home and heart will never be the same. He was so full of personality, spunk and love and I just miss him sooooooo much. It was through Rusty that I found this board and seeing the picture of Mason just about broke my heart - he looks exactly like our Rusty, both in the coloring and his facial expression. We had our Rusty cremated and he now sits on top of our china cabinet so he can look down and keep his eye on what's happening - something he always loved to do. Duffer, Hobbs and Holly were just lost without their big brother to look after them and lead the way. A month ago we added Dickens to our family - he's the sweetest little long-haired black/tan and has a personality that is somewhat like our Rusty's was. It's been great to watch them play 'chase' which is something they have not done since Rusty went to the Bridge. But the hole is still here and I don't think I will ever truly recover. I try to get through each day but I just miss him so much and it seems like the sorrow is so overwhelming at times. I wanted to let the board know about our Rusty earlier but just couldn't let it out - so I apologize. Take care, I'll post when I can and guess I jsut have to keep working through the grieving process. Although seeing the picture of Mason hurt so bad I also know that our Rusty is still out there - and maybe one day I'll find myself another Rusty. Please say prayers for him.

Kathy,
Thank you for sharing this memorial for Rusty with us. When I saw the picture of Mason I thought "What a wonderful face!" His new family is so lucky. Just as you had the wonderful luck to have one as special as Rusty in your life.
Please make use of our new Grief Center Forum if you ever need support from the board. Many of us know the same kind of loss. The hole that seems to never go away completely. It has been over 2 years now for me.
I am so glad to see you "back" on the board. Dickens sounds absolutly adorable. I hope to see him (and the rest of your crew) in the Brag Book soon.

I'm so sorry to hear of your lose. It is never easy... they seem to take a piece of our hearts with them when they go.
Dickens can never replace Rusty but hopefully he will be able to heal the pain.

Kathy - I am so sorry about Rusty. I know how much you loved him. Over the years your story about your baies have been such a delight. It is so hard to loose a bay and my heart goes out to you.

In less than a year, I've lost 3 of my 4-pack. I know how much seeing one that resembles your sweet loved one makes you ache inside! Gretl passed on her own in December, Sorcha had to be rehomed in January and then helped to the Bridge in March - brain tumor, and my sweet Siglen fell or slipped into the hot tub on September 25. Now, with my dad so ill and my mom recovering from surgery, I can only deal with things an hour or a day at a time.
I am glad you have your sweet Rusty overseeing things at your home - always good to have an :angel1: keeping watch! :hugs1: to you! Julia B.

Kathy - we are so sorry to hear about the loss of Rusty. We fully understand the putting down the words on the board is sometimes the final act to admit that they are "gone".
Please feel free to post about your feelings - we are here to help in any way that we can. We are pleased to hear about Dickens - and that the pack is finding their way again.

Kathy,
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of Rusty. I've lost 3 of my original 5 pack in the last few years and I know what pain you're going through. It still bring tears to my eyes to talk about losing Pebbles. I get all teary hearing about someone else who is going through the grief that you are. Just remember, many of us on the board have gone through the same pain that you are now. Feel free to lean on us. We're here for you. :hugs1: :hugs1: :hugs1: to you.
Kathy,
I'm very sorry for your loss, I know the feelings. Please try to remember the good times with Rusty, it will get easier as time goes by although I know you will never forget him. I will light a candle for Rusty. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear about Rusty. I had noticed the change to your signature and was afraid he might have gone to the Bridge. Many of us understand your pain at losing that little part of your heart that is a dachshund.
I am glad you have Dickens, and although he'll never replace your Rusty, he will bring his own form of joy. Fortunately, there is room for many dachshunds in a heart.

I am sorry that Rusty left you, but he is still with you -- just watching over you from the bridge and playing with all of our other lost ones. He probably sent you Dickens to keep you occupied. Take care.
Thank you for sharing your Rusty with us. Please accept our heartfelt sympathies. Those of us here that have lost a beloved furkid know your pain. We are all right here with and for you.

Dear Kathy, I understand, it's still very fresh for me too. I lost my Coco on July 28th. She was an all black Cocker Spaniel. The other day I was walking up the stairs and actually stepped across my black bag that was on the floor automatically thinking it was her. It make me so so sad when once again I realized that she was gone.
My sympathies go out to you. :hugs1:

Kathy, I am so sorry to hear about Rusty. He was such a beautiful dog. I, too, know the grief you are going through, having lost Cooler last May. The pain lessens, but the sweet memories stay, although, sometimes, the littlest things sets you off. If that happens, please let us know so we can help you through it.
