Starting around 8:14 (EST I believe) in North and South America, there will be a total lunar eclipse. It should last about 3 hours and will have an orange glow. The next total eclipse of the moon will not be until March 2007.
Time to break out the lawn chairs and grab a cold one and sit on the porch to see our "pumpkin" tonight.

It's overcast beyond belief here and I just love watching lunar eclipses. :crying: :crying: Hopefully, it will clear up enough so I can at least get a peek! Thanks for the reminder!

but, knowing my luck, it'll be cloudy! Now that I finally have a fancy telescope, everytime something like this happens, I'm either clouded up or socked in by fog! :crying: :( :dizzy: Julia B.

Yay for beautiful southern nights! It's been GORGEOUS here for about a week- and today is mostly clear, with just a few puffy clouds dotting the sky. I have my telescope neatly packed away- and no where to unpack it yet. :(
But I'll enjoy watching it with my eyes anyway. :)
Thanks for the heads up!

It's gross here today, so no chance to see it even if I was available (I'm moderating the local All Candidates' Debate tonight - aka throwing meat to the lions).

If it comes out, I'll grab a hot cider instead of a cold one :) It's getting quite chilly here already.

Carrol!
I need to come visit you then! I hate the cold and it's only in the 40s at night here now. 60 out there now.

The moon has been beautiful the last two nights on my way home from work. I hope it is clear again to night so I can see it

Thanks for the reminder! I totally forgot about the the eclipse tonight. I'm outside to our deck tonight to watch. Of course Mirri my baby already knows it. She's a big mouth at full moon. Today she's not shutup, I think she knows. Any of you guys have a moon dachie???

When I drive from Luke Air Force Base to home at night, sometimes the orangy/red looking moon will look like it is in someone's field or backyard because it seems so low to the earth! :yikes: :faint:
Since I get such a good view of the moon, I probably will have a great view of the eclipse. :cheer: :cheer:

We sat out on the back porch last night and watched it. We got outside around 830cst and it had just begun. It turned this glorious shade of pale orange around 9cst. I wish I had a picture to show you all. It was so large and so close I felt I could just reach out there and touch it. Absolutely magnificent. My only regret is that my children fell asleep and could not watch it with us.
