Augie Dog

I have always take Augie on long walks around the development, but today was different. We went down another road that lead to a small stream. (brook) His ears perked up to hear water that was not coming out of a faucet. I took him under a small bridge and let him roam. I wish I had a camera! The surprise on his dogie face to feel COLD MOVING WATER that was chest deep. He loved it, then the mud along the bank! He found an exposed root of a tree half in the mud, man can this dog DIG! Needless to say, Augie got a shower as soon as we got home!
I have to get a home page, this is too fun!

Awwwwww your pup sounds just like my Rosie a month or so a go i went with my hubby and a friend to some land they were clearing to build their house on it had a little stream on it and trees as far as the eye could see... Rosie was on her long leash (16ft) and walking everywhere she was right by us so i let her off the leash to run she was such a good girl when we got the the water u had to kinda jump over cuz this is rough country no bridge ... i called Rosie to pick her up and *Splash* she jumped in a started swimming ... it was the cutest thing to watch her little short legs paddling for all she was worth but or course i didnt have my camera... we plan to go back over again 2 weeks from now and im gonna take pics this time. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

How come your pups like water so much? Pluto won't even go out in the rain. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Lanie, "rain" and "water" are two different things to a dachs! Well, to SOME dachs(es)!
I live right near the lakefront in Chicago, and the "dog beach" (a fenced-off area that includes a shallow beach into the harbor) is not far away. When it gets really, really hot, I take Farfel there. As usual, when there's a public dog park of some kind, the vast majority of participants are big, playful dogs, and unlike Amy's Owen, Farfel just does not LIKE them! He likes to be left alone. He goes to the water's edge and wades out until he's chest-deep in the lake. Then he just stands there, cooling off.
The first time I took him, he waded out past where his little legs could reach the bottom and he was suddenly swimming. He just paddled around until he was in water shallow enough to stand on the bottom again and stood there. He'll stay until I go in and MAKE him come out! It's so cute! Especially when we wags his tail, and it just kind of floats on the water surface!
Peaches, however, wants nothing do with water of any kind. She stops every two steps and shakes her little paws when she has to go out after a rain....

Ah, yes, the difference between rain & water! Water coming from an invisible source in the sky is icky & cold. Water, esp muddy water in a puddle, is good for tromping in & getting all dirty. Water in a lake or pond, or a slow eddy at the edge of a river is good for wading, splashing & swimming, whichever sounds best at the time.
But we won't ever TALK about water that has any shampoo near it...

Augie hates baths. But, showers he tolerates. I'm in there with him, guess that's why!

Oh good, I am not the only one with a panic bather. Buddy hates to take a bath. He'll even scream like I am trying to kill him.

No water for this doxie doggy, sez Dolly Doglet! I am made of sugar and will melt if I get even ONE drop on me....except when my ears get in my water dish...hee hee!
Yesterday when it was really hot here according to my standards (around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, you would never believe that we live so close to the polar circle)and we went swimming all the family. There was a little jetty by the lakehttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/think.gif and I made the dogs swim around it keeping them on a leash. Helga and Miss Piggy just loved it and wanted more and more http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/hapfac01.gif. But poor Little Princess didn`t think much of it although the water was warm.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/disgust.gif She wanted to climb on the jetty all the time. Later she was satisfied, however, when she could sit on a warm stone in the sunshine and look at the gulls and wild ducks in the distance http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/cool.gif.

Wotan loves to chase hoses going at full tilt boogie! Of course he gets wet as a sponge and I have to wring him out before he can come inside again.
What's worse is that he's found dry dust to powder himself with. He thinks he's a chocolate dachsie now...http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rolleyes.gif
BUT if one drop of RAIN hits his sweet little brow he beats feet for the covered porch area. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/disgust.gif Like Miz Dolly Doglet he too is made of sugar (yeah, right! )
Tina:
Sounds like Little Princess just was doing what her name implies- why should the "royalty" go swimming with the commoners?
Besides, one of those fine, yummy ducks might get confused and swim into a waiting dachsie's mouth http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/facelick.gif
