I just hate this--it seems that everything is dangerous, bad for you, bad for the environment, sure to result in certain death, etc. But knowing how many of us on the board have dogs who are obsessed with the WGB, I felt I had to pass this on.
I received an e-mail today from a friend of one of my adopters. Their wheaten terrier died last week after swallowing one of the noisemakers in the WGB. It isn't the object itself that caused the problem--it is the fact that the noisemaker is coated with zinc. The poor dog died of zinc poisoning.
So if any of your dogs chew the WGB, as well as roll it around, you know what you have to do. Angie, one of my boss's dogs, loves the thing beyond all reason. We threw it away today.... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/crying.gif
