Or, at least it certainly looks that way. My husband learned at a business meeting yesterday that his company will be closing his office very soon. They offered him another position in Ft. Worth (only 2 hrs away), and it looks like we'll be taking it. He doesn't want to lose his position within the company-- he's been there from the beginning. But, there's not another company that he could go to work for locally that he could make a comparible income. But, then again, we've both lived here practically all of our lives. We just bought our house a little over 2 yrs ago, our kids are settled in their schools. And I'm really worried about the dogs. I know nothing about the area we'll be moving to, so I don't want to just up and buy another house-- but where can you rent with 4 dogs!?! And, how will they handle the move? Anybody from or near Ft. Worth (or anywhere, for that matter) that might could offer some advice?

you might go to dfwdachshund.com and post a message. see what they can say. Several folks live in the FT. Worth Area. What part of the FT. Worth area is your hubby going to be working in?

I'm from Dallas and know a lot of people who live in Tarrant County. There are many developing suburbs out there and I am sure you won't have a problem finding a house. I don't know what else I can help you with except to say welcome to the Metroplex! :D

Maybe someone could recommend a good realtor who could help you with your relocation, provide you will info on different areas in your price range. There should be reports on the schools so that you can determine what district you want to live in. Both the dogs and the kids will adjust, I truly think they will handle it however you approach it. There may be a few tears shed, but if you play it up as a positive new adventure, I think that's how they will take it. The dogs, I assume, will be the same way. They pick up on our anxieties, but if we are happy, so are they. My family moved lots growing up. There were tons of adventures, new places, new friends, my whole childhood. I can't look back on any long term friendships, but I can tell you about some pretty cool places! I still yearn to move, been here in CT since I was 18 and I'm (YIKES!!!) turning 40 in the Spring. Oh, and another positive side, think of all the junk you can get rid of!

Great !! More Dachshunds in the Metro plex!!!
Cindi is from the Ft. Worth area... maybe she can offer some help. And Zandra is right there are a lot of other DFW Dachshund club members who live on that side of the Metro Plex.
When I moved to the Dallas area from Atlanta pets in Apts. etc didn't seem to be a big problem... but if you're wanting to rent a house it may take a little longer to find than an appt complex.
When do you think you'll be moving?

That's not far from where I work in Irving. He'll be close to Irving, Grapevine, Arlington, North Richland Hills, Euless, Grand Prairie etc.
Check out ebby.com (http://ebby.com) They have a good MLS real estate seach engine.

That is very close to where I used to live in Irving...in between FTW and Dallas. You will have tons of options on finding a place to live. I am not sure who has the better school districts in the area. I went to Irving schools for a few years. They were good but that was 20 years ago. Not sure if they still are... a lot has changed in the area.

Connie, I understand your apprehension. Moving is one of the most stressful things that can happen in your life. I have moved twice in the last 10 years, but it was always in the same area, just a new house. Even that was stressful. Sometimes you have to make unpleasant decisions at time like this. Could you live on less and stay where you are now? Would your husband be happy with a job making less money? There might also be less stress involved which could make things easier. Look into all your options for either staying or moving. I know this is very hard for you. The dachsies will probably do fine. Everytime we move to a new house, we have some potty issues at first when everyone's upset, but things seem to calm down fairly quickly. It seems like mine are okay as long as hoomom and hoodad are there with them. Good luck and keep us posted. I've missed seeing your posts lately.

Hate to hear of this for your family.
I know you like being there and close to your mom.
I know that finances always play a big role, so moving will probably be the best thing.
I am sure that with the links folks have sent you, you will be able to find something.
I think the doxies will be fine.
Kamper and Maggie did great with our giant move from Colorado to MS.
Please keep us updated.
I enjoy moving. Must be from being a military brat. We moved all the time. Even after my dad passed, mom would buy a different house and then we would move again. ALways in the same City.
I would not mind moving to another State at times. But I think hubby is set here. We sold our first house here and then bought this one. So 2 houses in almost 5 years, not bad. Must be some Gypsy in me LOL

I'm like Heidi and have that Gypsy streak as well (this house is the longest I've stayed anywhere since I was 16!) - but I do appreciate the difficulty in moving to a new town, new house, new environment - especially with children!
We're here for continiuity and support - and it certainly looks like the dachsie community in Fort Worth is in full swing! Please keep us updated!
We just moved last weekend . . .
Good lucK!!!!

Congratulations! (I'm looking at the bright side!). It's a lot of work but I love moving! You get to clean out your junk and buy new junk for the new house!
I was in my last house for 7 years with Coco and the first days we moved she kept wanting to go with me everytime I got in the car etc. I think she wanted me to take her back home! The first night we turned out the lights to go to bed and she went and sat at the door. It was like she was saying, "we're leaving now right?" If you're home with them the first week it really helps.
As for the kids, well kids are great at being resilient and adapting to just about anything.
Good luck!!!
