Do all you people who are from the Northeast have sweaters and coats for the furry friends? We just got a hand knit sweater that he just loooooves. He jumps when the sweater is taken out and when it's on him. he gives this look that says..look at me ..i'm hot s**t. Wagging his tail..head high..it's amazing. Think we need to get a heavy coat for winter though..never had a doxie in the winter. Don't think they will take too kindly to the snow and wind and ice. It will be an adventure.

Dachshunds are all different. Some like yours love their coats or sweaters others refuse to wear them. some with or without coats or sweaters hate the cold and you have a hard time getting them out the door to take care of business. Others prefer to stay natural (no clothes) and you swear they are going to freeze solid they want to stay out for long times even in the most frigid weather.

We are lucky here in Colorado in that while our temps dip down low more days than not we also have sunshine and low humidity. It's not uncommon to see people outside at noon in shirt sleeves with the temps in the thirties. Tuesday morning we were down to 4 for our morning low and only about 30 for our high but my boys didn't seem to mind being out w/o clothes. I tried the sweater that Aggie had used on Tanner earlier this month and he wanted it off ASAP. Aggie lived it but then she was one of those dogs who would sit there and shiver at forty degrees.

As you have most likely already discovered it can be difficult to find clothes that fit our little buddies. If you want clothes for dachshunds you generally will have the best luck shopping the web and looking for those who manufactures custom fit to individual measurements. In general sleeveless sweaters or coats have the best chance of working for our long low companions.

Good luck,

Tom and the boys (Frank and Tanner)
