I just want to say that the stories on this board are great. I'm sure everyone will agree that dachsies have to be some of the funniest creatures alive! My 2 year-old Harley loves baby wipes. I use them sometimes to clean around his mouth, and he will bite at them until I rub down his chest and bellyhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gifHe also loves warm clothes fresh out of the dryer--he will bury himself under the clothes so that I have to move around him to find all of the socks. What a character! My 1 year-old Roxie girl chases lizards in the backyard. She's VERY persistent and so silly!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/silly.gif
My oldest, Pip, loves to take showers. Some of you might find this gross, but I am just used to it now. Whenever I go into the bathroom to take a shower, Pip comes in and waits patiently at the shower door to get in too. I used to just shoo him away thinking he didn't really want to shower with me, but to our family's amazement, Pip LOVES to shower with anyone who will have him! If you don't want a shower partner, you must sneak into the bathroom and make sure the door latches or Pip lets himself in. He also whines and cries until we let him into the pool with us. He likes to lay on my back and sun himself while I am lying on a raft. Not spoiled or anything!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/cool.gif

Harleyrox, my boy Farfel also likes laundry, but he prefers it when it's on its way TO the washer. He loves to jump into the basket and bury himself in the clothes. They are SO cute, aren't they?
Mel, that's pretty funny--I've never known a dachshund who liked to shower! Can you get a photo of you and Pip on your raft? Sounds priceless! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Went shopping last Saturday. I found another sweet little toy for my boy, Wotan. It was a cute, fuzzy, multicolored soft ball with a squeaky inside. Hmmmmm. I know. I didn't expect it to last anyway.
I dragged all the bags into the kitchen and flung them on the floor. Before I could count to 10 I heard this "rustle, rustle" of plastic and saw my baby trying to run off with the new toy. He was trapped around the leg by the bag handle, hindering his quick getaway plan. That toy was clenched in his jaws tight,I could barely cut the tag off of it...
Then Wo happily ran off to destroy his newest aquisition. He didn't even say "thanks"! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bad-boy.gif

They also like the laundry too esp. the fabric softener sheet i have to steal them away before they are in a million peices all over my floor. Tader has a sick habit of dragging dirty socks and umm other things out of the hamper... into the livingroom ... geeeesh i hope no company is over when he does that....lol They are all so silly! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/silly.gif

That is funny. Sam has never acutally got into the shower before but he does look in like he wants to. He likes to sniff the dirty laundry but isn't there long enough to dig in. He does like to play with the towel when are trying to dry him off after a bath. Imagine a smooth, red tweenie running down the hall a full speed, because he finally got the towel away from you, dragging an extra large bath towel. You gotta http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/love.gif 'em.

Towels are especially hated in my house. Harley loves to play tug-of-war with the towel after bathtime. Man, is he strong for a twelve pound weiner. Then, Roxie gets involved in the action, and all you can hear is "ggrrr-ggrrr".

My last dacshie Buddy loved the shower too. He would play in it and would try to bite at the water. Mickey however is not amused one little bit with his showers...http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/disgust.gif
Does anyone else have a dachsie who thinks every bag brought into the house has something in it for them??? With Mickey, Buddy and my mom's dachsie Oscar, every time you bring any sort of bag home, they have to rifle through each bag looking for a toy or treat that you MUST have brought home for them.
On Friday, my mom called me. She told me to listen and then held up the phone. I could hear Oscar in the background, squeaking a toy furiously and barking at it. When my mom got back on the phone, she said she had just come home from grocery shopping and a trip to Wal-Mart. She said she had about 15 bags of stuff that she put on the floor when she came home. Oscar then proceeded to go through each and every bag, determining the contents to see if there was a toy in there, and if not, he moved to the next bag...until he hit the jackpot! She said Oscar then ran off with the toy and she couldn't get it back from him. He was barking at it because he was ticked that he couldn't get the plastic wrapping off the toy! When he gets a new toy, he's so funny because he's VERY protective of a new toy...he'll even sleep with his head on it...

I have my own personal little paper shredders...lol
Would anyone elses dog rather have Paper than toys?

Rita likes to play with the water coming out of the hose or sprinkler. Every time I'm trying to fill up their outside water dish or water the plants, I have to contend with Rita biting the water. I squirt the water out in the yard and she will run and chase it, then I cut it off and she will run around looking for it. When she turns, then I squirt her butt. She gets so fustrated she starts barking at the water and winds up soaked. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/silly.gif

MIckamack, my dachsies think that they MUST have a toy or chewie inside any bag that comes home. I really feel guilty if I don't buy them something. It's no use placing the bags up high, Harley will just bark furiously at the bag until you show him "no treat". By the way, I just bought two stuffed lambswool toys from Petsmart on Saturday. They were de-stuffed in an hour.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/ksmile.gif

I have a cute one.
When Bailey and Ginger are done eating and their bowls are empty, Bailey picks up his bowl and carries it over to where my hubby or myself are and he sits in front of us with the empty dog bowl in his mouth. We tell him "No more food, you ate your din-din already" then he eventually gives up, drops the bowl and walks away.
It is so cute because Bailey has those real "sad looking" eyes, so it makes it hard to say "no" http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/facelick.gif
Keep the cute stories coming, I love to get a good laugh at the expense of these funny dachsie'shttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Linda, I have a picture in my head of Bailey coming over to you with a food bowl in his mouth...it reminds me of Snoopy knocking on Charlie Brown's door with a food dish in his mouth. Very cute!

Austin is also a doxie that thinks everytime I come home from the store I brought something just for him. He doesn't even care that I'm home. He's too busy rifling through the bags trying to see what I got him. And if mom didn't bring something home for him, he then proceeds to play with the bags. It doesn't really take much to please him.
He is also so adorable when he wants food. He will knock his food or water bowls all over the kitchen floor letting mom know that he wants something to eat. A lot of the time he has his dry food in his bowl but he is letting me know that he doesn't want that.

Peaches is a bag lady too! Not just my grocery bags either--anybody's! We were coming into the building today and my new neighbor had put her grocery bags down to fish her keys out of her bag when we came in behind her. Peaches trotted right over and stuck her head in one of the bags and began sniffing around. I was embarrassed and got her out of there. Then she spied a baguette sticking out of one of the other bags, and she actually opened her little jaws and was ready to drag it out, like a big bone... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rolleyes.gif
Wirewieners, Peaches also viciously attacks hose streams! No matter how soaked she gets, she continues to go after it, trying to bite it.
I love these stories about dachsies demanding food by using their bowls as tools! Too cute!!

My little Brownie has the knack for the green back. If we have company we have to make sure to keep the pocketbooks off the ground and zipped up because my little doxie love money. you also have to be careful because she will go through your pant pockets too.
I must have trained her well http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif
My only mistake with her training was not to get her to look for the big bills!! ( I get tired of seeing the one dollar billhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/ksmile.gif)

Well, even when just Mickey and Oscar play, they do the same thing. When we throw a ball, they will both hold on to it and will not let it go. They run back to us, with the toy in both their mouths.

Here's another cute one...silly Harley will sit beside me on the couch( on his bottom, of course, like a person). He's content as long as I'm giving him total attention and love but let me get distracted by the t.v. or my other dachsie, and his lip will curl and I get a bite on the nose (just a little nip to remind me who the king is).http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif
Dukey's Mom
07-25-2000, 12:21 PM
When I come in from grocery shopping or any kind of shopping, the kids think there is something in it for them. Dukey will literally hang off a bag as you try to get it to the counter.
Also, tissues are a big hit in my house. I was doing an adoption a few weeks ago and the woman was filling out the paperwork and had placed her bag on the floor. Big mistake. Dukey was in it in a second pulling out tissues and out the doggy door he went with Dottie and the rest in hot pursuit.
They had them torn up in 20 seconds flat!
She still adopted the dog thoughhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

It's not just sacks and tissues at our house. One day when I didn't get Franks crate door latched I came home to find the roll of paper towels I had placed under the swivel rocker (Franks favorite place to lay when I first had him) had been pulled out and about half the width of towels had been shredded. I lost count of how many towels on the roll were involved when the number of individual sheets got up over a hundred. It looked like it has snowed in the living room.

Just trying to get caught up on posts here......
OK....
Once when I finished up in the shower, I reached out only to find to my dismay that my towel was gone. I threw my robe on while I was soaking wet and went into the living room to find little Willi curled up on my towel sleeping on the couch. Harummmmph. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rolleyes.gif
The best was afternoon, I accidentally left my sunday newspaper on top of his crate. My hubby came home to find Willi buried in shredded paper. He looked like a hamster in a cage. Yes, Wienergal.....I do have a picture of that! I'll try to post it here.

My daycare kids have been bringing extra clothes in plastic grocery bags, Bud thinks these bags are for him. He will grab a handle and away he goes. It goesn't matter what is in the bag he will steal it and hide it. He also likes bicycle helmets. He grabs them and hauls them off as fast as his little legs will carry him. As for tissue and stuff hes a walking vacuum cleaner. I spend half my day trying to get stuff out of his mouth. Even my kids weren't that bad about putting stuff in their mouths.

Ruined Appetite:
I got some meat on sale and decided to jerk some and them toss the ground stuff in the freezer. As I buy the BIG packages to save $$$ I repack the meat into freezer bags.
While I did this, two very intense little beady eyes were concentrating hard on the victuals. I gave Wo his dinner in raw meat.
I also cooked up a few garlic soup bones for the Stinky Sister (and Wo). The S.S.s ran off with their treasures, but all Wotan will do with that bone is guard it with a jaundiced eye!
He'll lay across my foot with his nose almost touching the thing- he hasn't even chewed on it yet, but boy, don't say, "Give me your boney!" You'll get the L@@K!
Right now he's given up the comfort of his couch in order to lay by it on the rug. I haven't the faintest why he hasn't buried that bone in his blankie yet...? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/facelick.gif
