Thought I'd start a different thread since Lexie's back problem doesn't really fit under 'exciting news'. :(
Yesterday was a long day for our precious Lexie... she's a good girl and doesn't mind being in her crate but her whole demeanor said "It hurts mom, fix it." :(
Later in the afternoon I read here about the rice bags and remembered Walgreens carries something similar so Lynn went over and bought two styles. Lexie won't let us put the wrap on her (she tries to eat it), so we put the 'back wrap' under her bedding... it keeps her toasty warm and it does help her relax. Only problem is she's verrry protective of it and stresses when anyone comes near her, she thinks they might take it away! I called the vets office this morning to see about getting something for the pain as she was obviously in pain overnight and still this morning; will give them a little longer to call me, then I'm going up there. Her regular vet is out until Monday so we're hoping to keep her still and comfortable until then.
Here are the packs, btw.

I'm glad the rice bags helped. I actually used one that I made for myself when I was having back problems. It's just a big rectangle that I laid across her back. Sending more rayz for Lexie's recovery. :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz:

We now have Tramidol for the pain and Lexie's already resting more comfortably. She came out of her crate on her own for the first time and is laying on her bed next to me, catching some sunshine coming thru the window. She's getting verrrry sleepy now and that stressed look is gone from her face. She & I will be hanging out watching a movie if anyone needs us. :hugs1:
Thanks for the :rayz: :rayz: . Those and the tramidol did the trick. ;)

I know this is so stressful to see your little one in pain. I am so glad you were able to get her something for it.
Sounds like she is wanting some mom time.
Bless her little heart.
Sending more of those powerful rayz :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: for Ms. Lexie and some :hugs1: :hugs1: :hugs1: for you all.

Must have Lexie all better. Give her lots of love from Auntie Lori. Cant stand thinking one of the girls might be in pain. Glad she's got something to help make her feel better. We've got the same heating bags here. I also have the bed buddy and it smells like vanilla when you heat it. Keep us posted on how she's doing.

Awwwww - I sure hope Lexi feels better really quick. What a great idea about the rice bags - they would be comfortable and no electric cord to chew through either ;) I use an electric heating pad for my back and when I have it on I'm the most popular human in our home - all four of our crew just can't seem to get close enough - heat seeking missiles that they are :luvlove: Lots of 'feel better quick' :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: coming to Lexi from all of us here.

I rely on my heating pads and those wraps. They are so wonderful! I can see why she doesn't want you to take them away!
Sending :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: for Lexie I hope she is feeling much better now after the meds. I'm a big believer in heating pads I would never be without.

I am glad that you found something to make her feel better. What a good idea if you can keep them from chewing them up. I hope she feels better soon.

Lexie's feeling better today. The tramidol & the back wrap are keeping her pretty relaxed. She LOVES her back wrap, but no one mentioned it smells like FOOD when you heat it up! OMG, we can hardly get it away from her long enough to reheat it! We call it her 'food wrap' now. ;)
I really want to find out what this is exactly... is it really her back/neck, is it a strained muscle, a pinched nerve... will talk to her regular vet on Mon to decide what to do next. Until then crate rest with her food wrap. :)

Oh, I've managed to miss posting- but I HAVE been following (and sending zillions of rays!) Lexie's new troubles! I'm so hopeful that you've gotten your answer by now- that you KNOW what's causing her pain.
I love the "heat wrap" idea. :)
Please take it easy, Lex- :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz:
And :bighug:'s to you, Hope and Lynn!

The good news is Lexie's feeling fine now; the less than good news is we still don't know what was wrong. Lynn talked to our vet today and Dr. Downes wants to wait a few days until Lexie's down to a lower dosage of pred, then do blood work to rule out any problem with her kidneys, liver, etc. We do full blood work annually and Lexie is due in Dec anyway so we have an appt Fri. If nothing shows up in the blood work and she's back to her old self, there's no reason to do more tests especially since we wouldn't really know what to test for. It's really disturbing though that it's happened twice in just a couple of months. Dr. Downes has had several patients have the laser procedure at Oklahoma State, and we can get on the waiting list for that once Lexie's off her pred. I want to understand it better before I decide though. So for now, Lexie's back to her old self, but we're keeping a very close eye on her to keep her from jumping, etc. Thanks for all the rayz and good thoughts. :)

GREAT news Hope! I am so very happy to hear Lexie is feeling better. Though believe me I know how scary it is to not know the cause. We still aren't sure what's ailing Napoleon. Sending more rays for you anyway though!! :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz:

I can only imagine how difficult it is when you're not sure what's wrong. More rayz for you and Lynn and Lexie. :rayz: :rayz: :rayz:
