I have some of you talking about a "Kong" that you give your furkid. What is it? Thanks in advance!!

A Kong is a hard rubber toy which you can stuff with treats, peanut butter, etc., and the dog is amused for seconds/minutes/hours with trying to get to the treat in the centre.

They are very, very good for teething and keeping pups distracted when you want to leave with minimum fuss - and they are practically indestructable.

Once you're home, drop by a pet store (basically every pet store on the planet carries them) - I bet LB would love one filled with peanut butter!

Thanks!! Definately sounds like something I need to get LB. Jo says he has been going throgh "Bully Stiks" like they are water! Do you fill them and then freeze them or just fill them and let them have fun?

Either one is fine - if you freeze them first, they do last a minute or two longer ;)

My dogs love their Kongs. Here is a couple of sites to learn about Kongs and includes recipes for 'stuffings'.

Can I get one in Canada?
Hello, yes you can get them in Canada, but they are usually called Pizzles or Bull Winkles. I don't buy them from here, I actually order them from SitStay.com (store bone up above) because they are a lot bigger and they do last longer (yes...really gross when you click on the link and get an accurate discription of them!)

They are expensive, but they really seem to like them....they also love the Icelandic fish chews which last a long time, and IMO are healthier.

Hey Jack - what's a kong??....you've been out to sea or something?!?!:rofl::rofl: Sorry, I couldn't resist! Have a safe trip home! How many more days now 3 or 4????

Bully sticks are wonderful, though they can be a bit smelly....but we give one to Tasha and she'll be chewing and quiet for an hour or two. We just tried flossies and those are a hit too.

The kong she'll only chew when we're home. We start her on the hotdog filled kong (have tried cheese and PB too) and she'll chew till we leave, then she stops while we're at work, and will often try to start again when we arrive home after work (we take it away--hotdog has been out too long).

Has anyone tried the Twist n treat listed on sitstay?

Looks easier to clean if nothing else!

I bought Chapo one when he was teething and filled it with peanut butter and froze it. Now I fill it with cut up treats (liver treats, etc) and freeze it in the summer for him again. The Kong site had lots of recipes on there for them!!

Pipster luvs his Kong's (he has a collection). We're gone weekdays for a full workday usually and he gets a frozen Kong in the AM before we go, full of Red Barn sausage chunks and cream cheese. He hardly notices us leave!
