Monday night I had to get Christmas presents wrapped and packaged to send out of state. I got the presents and wrapping supplies out. I find the floor generally the easiest place to do gift wrapping. Both Frank and Tanner were very interested as I started getting thing ready. I put one roll of wrapping paper on the floor then went to get the tape. I came back and Frank had the end of the roll in his mouth starting to run off with it. A quick NO made him drop it and look up at me with those big said eyes. All the time Tanner was standing there observing with one of those dachsie grins they get while watching the other get in trouble. I sat down on the floor to get to work and promptly had both noses in front of me want to help. A had to say no a few more times and Tanner retreated to a near by cuddlier bed where he could curl up but still keep an eye on me. Tanner didn't want to give up so easy. He wanted to walk on the wrapping paper, get his nose in middle of the scissors and be right there as each piece of tape was pulled off the dispenser then applied to the package. I should have thought to take one of his paws while I had the scissors and ask if he wanted his feet and nails trimmed that would have driven him away. After a couple of packages I was finally able to interest Frank in a rawhide that was near by. The only trouble after that was when one of the boxes that contained some egg carton like cardboard packing material proved to be to small. When I got back from getting another box Frank was sitting there chewing up the packing material. More tail wags out of Tanner as Frank got another scolding. Frank is 13 months old now I can just imagine what some of you with young pups will be going though this holiday season.

I had help too. I wrapped all the small boxes on the table, but the big ones required the floor space. LuLu (the wire) decided to stand on top of each box I tried to wrap. It was a challenge. Tried to give her the tube to play with, but no! The box was the center of attention she was not getting. Good Luck! Rena

http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif I can just picture your boys trying to "help." It's quite a funny picture.

Mickey tries to help by rolling his ball over to me while I'm attempting to wrap presents. I push the ball out of the way, then he'll roll it over the paper and continually nudge it against me until I get the "hint" that he wants me to play with him...I mean, I AM ON THE FLOOR...that is playing territory right???

I'll try to be nice, but he won't stop, so I ususally end up raising my voice at him. But then he looks so stricken that I swear I can see a tear forming in the corner of his eye!

The big helpers are truly TOO MUCH!

Last week we got new living room furniture, so the boys have been figuring out how they can use it to their advantage. I was wrapping some of their gifts on the dining table when I felt someone watching me. My husband wasn't home....so I turned around, and there was Jakey...sitting on the top of the new chair, taking in an eye full of new gifts to be given! Needless to say I have been more careful when wrapping their other gifts (all ten million of them it seems).

Lili has been "helping" also. She loves to sit in my lap and get into the ribbon. The tubes of empty paper I used as a megaphone and she loved it. Couldn't quite figure out why Mama's voice was down there. So far she has left the presents under the tree but then she has not been alone with them. The Christmas music boxes drive her crazy. Just barks and barks. She is enjoying her first Christmas and loves to open her own gifts. Everyone who comes in brings her something and she KNOWS it is for her. What she really wants is inside plumbing for her own toilet.

Better late than never!
I don't get help wrapping - I do it on the dining table, BUT - it is an unalienable dachshund right in this household to help open and inspect all boxes and packages - which is what my 3 girls do. Every Christmas present was duly inspected - especially the ones that were partially wrapped by my sister's cats. Then, since I let the girls "open" their treats and new floor pillow, they decided every other prezzy was for them, too. I had trouble convincing Heidi that the giant economy sized "Weenie" was not hers! LOL Julia B.
