Last weekend I planted a ton of new perennials in my garden, among them a blood red trillium. Last night when I had Annie out in the back yard, she went directly to this new plant and delicately smelled the flower. She's never shown any interest in the plants before, and I thought it was so sweet.

Then today I was reading an article about trilliums, and I read that they are known for the horrible scent of their flowers. The red one in particular has an odor reminiscent of "old sneakers and rotted meat." I should have known! I can just see Annie pleading with me to wear a blood-red trillium behind her ear for the dachsie prom. "But MOM, I'll smell like smelly gym socks! The boys will LOVE me!"

Yup! Only a dachshund!!! This is getting a little personal but Dolly LOVES it when she's under the covers and hubby farts....or even mommy... Her tail starts twitching and then she heaves a happy sigh! Oh BRRRRRROTHER!

So that's why Shelbie enjoys take-away curry night so much!! Reminds me of the Gary Larson cartoon of the dog picking up the girl dog for the prom and saying "...and gosh, whatever you've rolled in sure smells nice!"

Boy do I wish Mitzi would just smell them. We moved at the end of the summer last year and so this year was the 1st time the spring flowers have come up for us. I don't know how they were planted but now we have some here and some there all over the yard. Well I was looking at this lone little tulip and Mitzi came running by and grabbed it the 1st time she didn't break it off so there she was running by again as fast as her little legs could go and before I could catch her she succeeding in picking it. Then when my niece and I were picking some of the bluebells for her mommy there was Mitzi once again getting the ones Chelsea was trying to pick. Mitzi was darting in picking the one Chelsea wanted then darting off again. Chelsea was getting so mad at her dog (she thinks Mitzi is hers that just happens to live with auntie Shonda) she was yelling MITZI NO!! and I was trying to not laugh but it sure was cute.

When henry was little, I had gotten some Pansies. They were sitting on a table and and when we got home, the flowers were gone! I had these nice little stems sticking up. A couple of weeks later, we were all taking a nice walk on the college campus and walked by the library, where there just happened to be a bed of pansies......before we realized it, Henry was chomping all the flowers off! We had to pick him up to get him to stop. of course he's much wiser now....
