Hello all well Tanner have been with me for 33 hours now and and it looks like baring discover of a major health problem at our check up tomorrow night or a blood letting fight before the end of the week he will be a keeper. He's a little on the plump but not obese side at 11.4 pounds. He is a mini and I suspect he needs to loose 0.5-1.5 pounds but his coat is also a little dull so we will work on that more than the weight for right now. He is a black and tan dapple longhair. The dapple is minimal covering small areas and is rather light silver. He has very short long hair but then the stress of being dumped in the night drop at the Dumb Friends League the two and a half months is foster care can be hard a little guy. His age is estimated at less than two years. I'll see what my vet thinks tomorrow night when we go in for a basic new dog check.
Yesterday was a little overwhelming for all of us. Tanner showed up at 1:30 and we were on our own after about an hour with our rescue friends. Tanner would not let me put a hand on him (too shy) but would take treats from my hand. After dinner he went under my end table where he let me do ear and neck rubs. I was able to get a hold of his collar then shoulder and pull him out for some quality lap time. He settled down on my lap so fast I went ahead on put on a walking collar and leash the got Frank in his walking collar so we could go visit our sheltie friends. Tanner did very well with the crew and was allowed on the ground with them in short order. We did then a walk and by the time we got home Tanner would come to me and let me pick him up with minimal cower. We all (Frank, Tanner, and I) sorted out our sleeping positions in my bed. I think letting these guys share your bed really speeds the bonding progress.
After two walks today, the second with our sheltie friends, a trip to multiple pet stores (a guy needs a few thing he can call his own, he did come with a few toys) Frank was finally able to get Tanner to run and wrestle in the yard. I can now pick Tanner up at will and he comes to get goods rubs. He is shy with other people and most dogs but I think with some work we will be able to overcome all this.
