So, Nick's brother and his wife came for dinner last Saturday, the evening was a fun one, good food, wine and conversation with an adorable Shelbie wandering in and out of the dining room looking like butter wouldn't melt....however! She decided at one point that she was bored and that under the circumstances the best thing to do was to have a look in Auntie's handbag. How we laughed as I stuffed things back in it, slightly red-faced! The next morning, my brother in law called, had I found a pearl earring that Joanne seemed to had lost, she remembers it was in her handbag ....(can you see where I'm going with this?!). Guess what I found in Shelbie's downstairs basket, hidden underneath the blanket? Curses, says Shelbie, I was after the other one and I was going to sell them. The moral to this story is of course, she could have swallowed it so visiting handbags are now put out of reach but honestly, you bring them up properly, teach them right from wrong and next they're slumped on a chair in the Maury Povich studio in a show called "My dachsie steals, smokes and dresses like a trollop and needs to go to boot camp"!

Count your blessings, Debbie. Had she decided to swallow said earring, hiding handbags would be the least of your problems. Reference the recent tales of strange items our dachsies have ingested. For the sake of family harmony, you would have spent considerable time looking for it! Ish!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/eek.gif
I am sure they were real pearls, Shelbie has too much class to have bothered with costume jewelry! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/cool.gif

I can't believe she didn't eat it! My mother has "lost" a pearl earring, a diamond earring, and a turquoise earring to her dachsie Molly's giant maw...only to "retrieve" them after a couple of days under the most trying circumstances! Molly has also eaten an elderly guest's hearing aid. Everything passed but the battery, which is probably still giving her superpowers!

Wow, I'm surprised she didn't eat it. I know my Oscar would have.
Maybe she was saving it for a special occasion!

My girl EAT real pearls?! Naaaa, she's her Mummy's girl. Seriously tho, I was just so relieved she hadn't swallowed it for all sorts of reasons - now if I can just get her to only take those brown and purple pictures of the Queen out of handbags......

Debbie, I don't know which shocks me more--the fact that Shelbie stole a pearl earring and didn't eat it or the fact <shudder!> that the Maury Povich show is broadcast in the U.K.!!! Can you ever forgive us?????

I think you're on to something, Pamela . . .
And I'm feeling a sense of national shame in that being broadcast to the poor unsuspecting UK . . . when, in fact, there are soooo many other wonderful shows to choose from like: Jerry Springer!
As for the pearl earring: is it wrong for a pretty girl to want pretty things? No! Shelbie should always have what she desires. If the Queen Mum can have all those shiny items, well, poor Shelbie deserves at least one pretty for her box.
(My sister had a Houdini hampster once who would go right to jewelry cases and pilfer pearls. That was a great weakness for him and an embarrassment to us. We always wondered if he was a secret cross-dressing rodent and would likely end up on Maury Povich. Debbie, have you seen him on the show yet? I believe his name was Bob.)

I just had to laugh at the hampster! How funny! Oh, our little friends do some strange things at times.....

No more James Bond films for Dame Shelby!
I'll bet she was waiting to get the other earring so she could step out in style on New Year's at Picadilly Square...
Hmmm. Pearls are a good choice for her with her hair and all...
I'm not surprised she didn't eat it. Sometimes dachsies hoard treasures because it makes them feel important. Not all dachsies are obsessed with eating everything!
Shelby, do you steal diamonds????
