We had a couple of "firsts" with our almost six month old Sadie. We got a sleet mix last Wednesday, and that was her first experience with wintry weather. She didn't mind it at all and tiptoed taking quick little steps to keep her balance. Such grace! She actually stayed out there a long time considering the temps were in the teens and windchill in the negatives.
So while we were trapped at home from the roads being icy, we decided to paint our bathroom. We took the mirror off the wall, and guess who discovered herself for the first time? She aggressively tried to scratch her way through the mirror to meet the doggy on the other side, and when that didn't work she'd walk behind it and look to see if it was back there. She couldn't figure out this "flat" dachsie thing that moved and sniffed at her. I finally had to turn the mirror upside down. But it really was the cutest thing!

Shelbie did that thing with a mirror last Christmas. We were at my brothers - I went to bed first and Shelbie went under the dressing table and started really growling. Well, I'm scared of spiders and was convinced it was a huge one so called for backup! They came in and explained they had an old mirror that they'd put between the wall and the dressing table and she was growling at her own reflection - known now as the "bad puppy"! Hope you have a great first Christmas with her!

It is so cute when they see themselves in a mirror and cant figure out where that other dachsie is!

How cute! Both my dogs did the "get that other dog behind the glass" thing when they were younger, but, alas, they outgrew it! It sounds as if you're enjoying every minute of having a puppy, even in the bad weather. Are you hanging a stocking for her? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

This is so intriguing because as many times as we have tried to show our dachshunds the other dog in the mirror, NONE of them has ever indicated in any way that they have seen themselves. I didn't think dogs could see in mirrors until now!

We have a glass front fire place Sallie & Annie bark and sometimes rush the stranger.DeeNee and Guy-Guy watch TV AND ONLY BARK AT THE DOGS.When we watch dog show tapes or something is on with dogs running they go and sit up right in front of the TV and sniff or BARK.These guys are way to smart I've found out in the last 13 years that they are smarter than the German Shepherds I had they do WHAT they want WHEN they want. What funny stories. My big red girl, Cloud, loves to carry her leather chew log around in her mouth like a cigar and she walks up to the reflective black glass doors of the entertainment center to admire how she looks with the "cigar" in her mouth. She checks out the port view then the starborad view and when she is satisfied with her appearance, moves on. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
