Frequently I will go into a room that Oscar is and he will be standing there with one of his front paws lifted off the ground. It looks when you see picture of a hunting dog. So, is this just an instinct thing? Anyone else's dachsie do this?

Hummm - haven't seen Mitzi do this but then again she only barked like a hound dog for the first time the other day. It was so cute but of course she hasn't done it since. By the was she hunting the cat - poor Frany. <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm19.gif" border=0> I'll keep my eyes open and report back to you if I seen my baby standing like this.

Lots of Dachsies do this when the are really looking at or listening to something. Its the Dachsie point.

Sadie does this all the time. She looks so classy sitting there with one of her paws lifted. Sometimes she even uses her paws to tap me to get my attention, or to wave it at me and act cute. She's the first dog i've had that has done this, and it's really cute http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I've seen Isobel do this on one occasion--she was pointing out a TRIM for the pits. She does do an "Awwww, shucks!" wave where she is on her back, tucks her head a bit and waggles her front paw in an oh-so-cute way. The frito smell wafting from this shovel feety never fails to make me smile.

Dan points like this too. Also they both reach out those little paws to touch and practically hug. Do others hug also? - Georgette

My Maddie is a pint size bird dog. Well, she at least has the point down. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif It's almost like she's saying....."Kiss my paw you peasant!" Or more like...."Pick me up mommy!"

Freddie does this too, mostly when I'm talking to him he looks up at me and raises his paw (always the right paw), also sometimes when he has his snout pointing to the ground his paw is raised. I have heard that it is a form of communication (like Wireweiners pointed out, they're listening carefully.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
