As regular readers will know, our living room is on the first floor which has meant for the past two years I have carried Shelbie down the stairs although she can run up them no trouble at all (although I try not to let her very often because of her back). A couple of days ago, I came home from work and there's Miss Shelbie half way down the stairs with the most determined look on her face ("no, its ok, I can do this"). When she got to the bottom she was soooo pleased with herself - Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the great Shelbini - ta,daaaaaah!! I didn't know whether to be horrified or laugh so I did both. Now, where did I put those baby gates for the top of the stairs....?

Oh, good girl, Shelbie! Gotta keep challenging yourself!

We gate the bottom of the stairs because Annie doesn't know how to go down--she'd go up, get stuck, and not be able to get back down to her "wee-wee pad." She's too much of a chicken, though, to try to go down stairs. One or two is okay--anything more, forget it!

Well Oscar's Mum, I'm not really sure. Iwas just fed up of Mum carrying me all the time and just decided they didn't look THAT steep and kind of bunnyhopped my way down them. I've done it quite alot this weekend when Mum's had her back turned, she says grrrr at me but I wag my tail I'm sooo pleased with myself!

Well- du-uh! Shelbie is getting her shapely girlish figure toned by doing her version of the dachsie stair master! Quit interfering Mum! How will she get those fine blokes to wag their tails at her?????

We thought we were very clever when we put the baby gate up to keep Toby downstairs. The following morning I found the hound wagging his tail madly on the landing. Our shapely doxie had squeezed through the bars of the baby gate and went up the stairs.

A few years later he attempted the same feat through our garden gates. A group of neighbours were talking on the other side of the road and he wanted a piece of the action. He got his shoulders through before becoming stuck. Bribing with a chocolate roll was the only way to push him back the other way. My mum thought we were going to have to call the fire service.
