I was reminded of this on the way home today by a talk show host I was listening to. When I was in college a bunch of us went to a concert in St. Pete FL. and were driving back to Orlando on a 4 lane divided highway. We were in a friend's van and were driving in the left-hand lane and were almost hit head on by a driver going the wrong way.
The talk show host, an ex- Highway Patrol man, mentioned that in every case where he had responded to a head on collision caused by a driver headed the wrong way on the interstate or a divided highway it ALWAYS occurred in the left hand lane.
Why? Because the person going the wrong way who is drunk, high or incapacitated in some way thinks he is driving on the right hand lane of his side of the road.
Think about it.. it makes sense. So, especially on nights like New Years Eve, when you are out and about on the highway at night stay in the right lane whenever possible.
For those who live in countries were you insist on driving on the wrong side of the road to begin with… just reverse the principle :)
Have a safe and Happy New Years!!
