I came across this site (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake) today and wanted to share... it is full of detailed and descriptive information on the tsunami and links to much more information on the subject. Also an animation of the wave movement... incredible... and such an overwhelming tragedy.

One article of interest (http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=HKZSFDUHVP5OYCRBAEOCFFA?type=scienceNews&storyID=7198022) from Wed morning - "Sri Lankan wildlife officials are stunned -- the worst tsunami in memory has killed around 22,000 people along the Indian Ocean island's coast, but they can't find any dead animals. It's amazing how the power of nature can dwarf anything man made.

I read that article about the animals the other day... pretty interesting... there have been many documented instances of animals sensing a natural phenomenon long before people catch on. That should tell us something.

The thing about the animals fascinates me. I saw Jack Hanna on CNN tonight and he said the prey and the predators warn each other. Like the birds see the fish freaking out in the ocean, other animals see the birds, and so on. FASCINATING!!!! They are amazing creatures. I believe they do have senses heightened in ways ours are not. It ALWAYS freaks me out when I see Napoleon or Brooklyn looking out the window and/or barking at something I cannot see!!

Several hundred years ago, when animals behaved strangely, then most people who live close to nature knew that was a sign of impending disaster. I think that because of technology, we have lost those skills.

Someone told me that the tectonic plates shifted 98 feet. Does anyone know about that? I can't seem to find any reference to it anywhere.

The animation was incredible!

The article about the animals is interesting! I really think there is something to be said for the way animals react to the environment and people. I've brought Chapo to work with me a few times and a few people I didn't like would come up to him and try to pet him and he would back away from them. People I like he did not. Their senses are interesting!

I hope they get a grip on this disaster before disease sets in, or more people will die.
