Hurray for New Jersey!

The State of New Jersey, fed up with puppy mills & pet shops, has passed a law that I hope every other state in America duplicates. They have made the PET SHOPS RESPONSIBLE for sick & defective dogs!

No more new-pup owner taking sick pup back to the pet shop & being told "we're not responsible". Now they ARE responsible!

This kind of law (if enforced) will make the pet shops be a lot more careful about the mills they buy their dogs from. Those dachsies with the almost-non-existance lower jaws, the collies with the detached retinas, the GSDs & BMDs with hip dysplasia, etc. could be reduced considerably.

A step in the right direction! MISSOURI, OHIO, ARKANSAS, PENNSYLVANIA, ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?

AL has passed a law that makes animal torture a felony. About time for this, too!

I just got my humane society newsletter and found out that Illinois has also passed a law making animal cruelty a felony. The first case to be prosecuted under the new law was in my very own Cook County, where a man poured flammable liquid on his pit bull, then set the poor animal on fire. There were witnesses, and the man was found guilty and is serving five years in prison. Fifty years would be better, but five years is better than the probation he would have gotten, if anything, before this law was passed.
