But i have noticed that alot of people on the borad have Dashie and dane combo's.
It's kinda funny to me, the size difference, but i was wondering about the tempermeant wise, just how alike they really are.
Before i rescued chelsea, my monster of a dashie, the breed that she was in competiton with was a dane, it came down to the fact that at the time in my life i am in an apartment and as i am sure a dane could live happily in an apartment i felt that a small dog was best suited to me at the time.
However, one day she will have "bigger" sibling. :fierce: However, i am sure that she will still be the one to rule the hose with an iron paw.

Well I think that they are a great combination. I know a lot of Dane people who also have Doxies, but not any Doxie people that also have Danes. :) Personally I think their personalities work well together. Doxies are smart, and eager, and more active than Danes. Danes are so easygoing and very tolerant. Oh and we all know doxies have no concept of their size so I know mine enjoys hangin' with the big dogs. So in our house, it works out that Napoleon has someone to pester, and chew on, and tug on, and Brooklyn just is like, okay, whatever. They do play together - Napoleon gets Brooklyn to chase him and they both love it.
I know the size difference would worry a lot of people. Brooklyn can be goofy sometimes and has stepped on Napoleon but only a couple times. He and I were NOT happy. But I know it was not intentional. They both have learned to get out of the way of each other. Napoleon is the master at running sideways away from a crazy Brooklyn, and many times I have seen Brooklyn jump or otherwise maneuver to avoid him. BUT I would use caution if I had a senior doxie and young Dane or a similar situation. A dane could definitely hurt a doxie without trying very hard. Our dogs do not play together unsupervised.
Yes, so in conclusion (haha) I think personality wise, the tenacity of the doxie and mellowness of the Dane work well together. Napoleon LOVES his big sister!! But the size difference is something that should always be monitored and approached with caution.

Oh and as far as pack mentality....neither of our dogs have many alpha tendencies. Most people would think the doxie would rule the house, and I think that is the case with most. But Napoleon idolizes Brooklyn, I swear. If they are off-leash anywhere, she is always the leader. He is always focused on her. That probably has to do with the fact that we got him as a puppy, and the fact that he isn't very alpha - yet.

We don't own a Dane to go with our Dachsies, but their favourite playmate from up the street is a Dane. They love Berkeley. He's a big sweet horse of a dog, unfortunately not that bright..but loveable. Hijinx (all 9 lbs of her) is convinced she's the boss of that friendship - but is terrified he's going to step on her!
