Lili's Mama

Right before we went out of town for a few days, I checked out the boarding kennel in town and took Lili with me. So many cages and big barking dogs that Lili was in a shaking trauma. There was no way I could leave my baby there for 4 days and me have a goodtime. After exhausting all possibilities I asked the next door neighbor if she would come and feed Lili and give her a kind word and I would leave her on the screen porch (she can get in and out of it)We have a fenced yard also. My sweet neighbor was happy to do it and asked if she could bring her in her house and "maybe" let her sleep with them. It all worked well, so Lili still has not slept a night without being in "the big bed". She was so happy to see us that she squealed and ran from my husband to me for 30 minutes and then ripped through the house as if to say, "I'm HOME" and inside. Also I took bunches of flak for calling to check on her. These non dachsie people just don't understand, do they?

yes, non doxie lovers don't understand the trauma of leaving their children for a night! the vet laughed at me for running in to get my dog after she had stayed there for a night.

I completely understand. My guys could never handle a kennel. Thanks to our kind next door neighbors, and my parents as backup, the dogs will never have to go through the trauma of not sleeping in the big bed!
I ALWAYS call multiple times to check on them. I worry! I also want to make sure that they aren't making mischief! lol:http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif
We always get attacked when we get home. I can't tell who is happier us or the pups!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/jacks.gif:
They're spoiled and I love them!

I can't TELL you how MUCH I can relate to this topic! Just call me Mommy Worry Wart. I haven't even left my girls home alone but have always had someone spend the night with them. Hmmmmm. It's good hearing these stories though. Maybe I could TRY it that way with just a neighbor checking in a few times a day. They have run of the house and a doggy door and RARELY get into mischief. Of course on our NEXT vacation coming up next month, we're bringing the kids along. It's a dachsie vacation up to Portland for the DCA Nationals and a wienerdog gathering of cyberfriends in Centralia Washington!! WooooHooooo!!!

I totally understand. We left Oscar in a kennel 2 times (one time was for 1 night only) and didnt have a great experience with it. Last year a friend stayed at our house while we went away. But thats not an option this year, so I decided it'll be a family vacation this year. We are going to drive to Maine to visit a friend, it'll be 8 hours in the car!

What? Leave my babies in a kennel? I was a nervous wreck each time one of my girls was spayed and had to be at the vets' overnight! I had a good pet-sitter who stayed with my girls for a week when I went to Hawaii (and then he moved away!), and then another who kept them when I went to Alaska, but mostly if I can't take my girls with me to MO (33 hours by car), my girlfriend watches my 3 and I watch her Siamese, sheltie, and shih-tsu - our barter system works pretty well - she lives a block away. Heidi, Gretl, and Siglen's mom, Julia P.S. We 4 are going to WA for the Jmom bowwow and can barely wait to meet our cyberfriends, like Dolly'smom and crew! JB
