Otto'sMom

Not one I wanted to join but my Otto is now a member of the "strained disk or neck muscle" club on limited activity and prednozone and a pain killer. On Friday last week, he'd tried to jump into the truck and misjudged his flight pattern and slid a little, I've seen him do worse. Then while intimidating a big dog at the dog park, he turned his neck and suddenly wasn't so brave and was all tail between the legs. I held him and he was fine, or so I thought. He acted a little strangely all weekend, being a wimp when Gert put her paws on him or the cat walked over his blanket. I thought his teeth (which need cleaning in the worst way were acting up so I was touching everything and came across the culprit: base of his skull caused him to YIKE!! He still seemed fine, eating drinking and enjoying rawhides. I came home today and when he came out of his kennel, he was all haunched up, but again, was still waggy and barky and happy to see me. Finally, I sit in the recliner with him and there was just this look in his eye that told me that it wasn't his teeth and we needed to get to the vet ASAP. We were able to get in and the vet didn't think we'd get much off of a neck xray. So he got a shot of cortizone and the pills and I got the instructions to keep him from being too frisky. He's a couch potato anyway but now I can't carry him the way I'm used to and I'm praying he won't get any worse.
That's what I get on my day as  Member of the Day.

Hope the link works.
Otto is resting comfortably. I just never dreamed my Otto would have this happen to him. He seems so tough.

I'm sorry that your Otto is experiencing back pain. After going through a surgery w/Joey I wince when anyone on the board mentions any signs of back trouble. It's the pits.
I know you've already heard this many times but please keep his movements restricted so can heal as the pain killers mask his pain and he may overdo his activities before he is ready. Take care. I'm sure Otto will feel better soon.
:rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: for a speedy recovery.

He seems to be moderating his activities all on his own, but I'm working very hard to keep him from jumping up and down off of the furniture. He gets a personal escourt everywhere.

Many Healing Rayz for Otto. :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: . Thanks for the Otto and Gert pics. Those two always bring a smile. :)
Sending mega :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: to Otto, I'm sure the meds will make him feel much better. Great shots of your furkids, they sure are good with that rawhide so close. If that was between Gretel & Trixie there would be a war on immediately. :D
Lotsa DBB Healing RAYZ headed Otto's way for a fast recovery. :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz:
Please do keep us posted.

Lots and lots and lots of :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: for Otto. Did you say the injury is at the point of the neck where the head meets the spine? That is where Jinxie had her issue - and from similar circumstances (she tripped while running and landed on her head). In our case - we took Jinx to a chiropractor and in one adjustment (with two follow ups) she was fine.
Please keep us updated on how he is doing!

Sending rays for a speedy recovery. You did a good job of picking up on the early signs and getting him to the vet. I know now when I look back at Aggie that that for several days prior to taking her to the vet she was holding her tail out straight way too much to be normal for her I had thought it was just another positive milestone for my mill mother who when I first got her you might sware didn't even have a tail it was so seldom seen. Then for a couple of days prior to my calling my vet she was hardly eating (always a picky eater not uncommon to skip a meal now and then). I also at first thought it was a tooth problem since she needed a dental.

The pic of the two of them is just gorgeous by the way. It got a big "awww" from me.

:rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: for Otto. And yes, keeping him quiet while on the painkillers is the best thing. How long do you need to keep him quiet for? Tasha has one week to go and she's not happy about it. No toys, and we keep having to put up the baby gate to prevent her from doing zoomies--yep, she's feeling better.
Poor you! :hugs1: Not a fun club to join, especially when you're MOTD!

Well, we're on dog park restriction for 3 weeks, and I'm taking him back for a followup on the 1st of Feb. He's doing really well keeping quiet on his own, but is a little bitter that he's downstairs in the chair while I'm up here on the computer. He may be taking advantage of me. Once he's figured out that he doesn't have to jump down from ANYTHING he waits for me to come and get him! He's been yipping for me to come and get him so I'd better get down there.

I've had Grrrrrt for 2 years this March! Far cry from 2 weeks/2 months those first vets gave us. She's been even more active since spending time up in Maryland with her Daddy, who makes her toddle up and down the sidewalk to go potty 3 times a day (no back yard to just squat and go) He doesn't fall for her little attempts to jump up and be held or carried the way I do. Every time I have to spend a few nights on the boat, the pups go up to stay with their dad, and he's even managed to get Otto to have a waistline! Gert launched herself off the loveseat the other day to get a bone that's about the size of her head, carried it over to her cushion and enjoyed herself. I think she's showing off for Otto. Usually, planting Gert on the sofa or chair was a safe bet, but she's getting it into her head that she can do more!
:yikes:

Glad to hear that Gert is doing so well! I remember when you first got her... she is a real miracle lady!
