Hi Folks.
My husband for my birthday got me a copy of "Dachshunds for Dummy's" They have them for all sorts of things. This has just been published, just started to look through it, but has alot of info. Really has the Dachsie down.
It would be an excellent book for anyone considering getting one.
Thought I would throw this out there

Hi Andrea,
There were several people reviewing it in this forum several weeks ago. Sounds like you liked it? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
Any specifics?

Hey Mark
I think this book is a great quide for people thinking about wanting a Dachsie.
It really conveys their personalities. As we all know, Dachsies, are a very "different" breed.
They are not for everyone, although, they should be!
It covers their persona, and the breeds intelligence, as well as them being stubborn, not that we have any like that!
Also, them wanting to be with their hoomans all the time as well as their not liking the cold, rain, etc.
I think for rescue, this book would be great!
Come to think about it, even with 8, never think you know a Dachsie, they are pro bably like woman to men! You never know.
Andrea
Hi Andrea,
I'm sorry, but I misinformed you. The other thread about this book was in the Misc. Forum (I think). http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
Some of the posts there were lost back when we were still having server issues.
Women? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif I'll understand them only if I come back as one! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
Thanks for the review,
Mark

I keep meaning to get that book. Have gone to Petco, Petsmart and they don't have it.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif Guess I'll have to go to Barnes and Noble.
So, it sounds like Dachshunds for Dummies has the correct info about the personality, and Rescue info, but has the colors/patterns mixed up/misinformed, huh?
I just bought a Dachshund book by Ann Gordon titled 'The Dachshund A Dog for Town and Country. It's very good. It covers everything including Rescue, and has pretty dachsie pics.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
One interesting note: In the 1930's, the Von Marienlust Kennel began breeding exceptional Dachshunds (owned by Josef and Maria Mehrer located in West Hempstead, NY). Many of our present-day Dachshunds can be traced back to the Von Marienlust Program. The dominance of their Line is impressive.
Anyone else have this book? I ended up getting it when I couldn't find the Dummies book. LOL<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm9.gif" border=0>

Susan,
Yes thats how I feel about the Dummies book...it has great info on being a responsible dachshund owner, good info on rescue and reputable breeders, but the color info is quite mixed up. I sent in a comment on that, and got a reply that it would be passed on to the author.
I also have the Ann Gordon book you just bought and I think it is a lovely book to have.
I bought the dummies book at Barnes and Noble for about $15.
