i have heard but not sure if it true that the color has alot to do with the personality. is this true? or is it the sex of the dog? just wondering out of interest. :dunno:

I really don't think it's either, just like humans, I think dogs regardless of sex are born with a personality, so as the hooman, you need to figure out your dogs and work with it. I have two males and they are night and day, granted they are different patterns, but I've met a piebald from the same breeder as Pixel and his personality is alot more like Pogo's (who's B&T).

Interesting question, I'd also like to hear what others think about pattern and personality.

Well that is an interesting topic. I have only one dachsie in my home right now and it's my first time owning one too so, I'm not quite sure what to say on this one. :dunno: But I would suspect you will get several more answers from those that are more experianced dachsie owners with mutiples. :)
I would guess to say that each dog is unique in personality on their own rather than coat types. I have heard that wires can be alittle more high-strung but I don't have one so I don't know. Ally is black/tan smooth mini and she is very laid back and mellow for the most part. I'm sure you will find many other b/t's that are completly opposite! :faint:
I am interested to find out what others have to say on this one. Good post! :dizzy:

I've never heard of color making a difference in personality. I have 2 Wheaton wire boys and they are polar opposites as far as personality.

I have heard there are difference between coat types
Like in general
Wires being clowns.
Long Hairs being more laid back
Smooths being more possessive.

I've heard that the different coat types can effect temperment but not the coat color. I think I read that the wire hair and the long hair has more energy and tends to be more stand offish with strangers and the short smooth coats are more relaxed and more friendly.
My smooth coat red doxin female is very friendly with just about everyone including babies (both human and dog) although she is the most space and pack oriented dog I have ever owned. Her energy level is on the high end of normal, though that might be more of her obsessive nature then energy.

I've never heard of coat color making a difference in personality. Although Karen is right about the differences in coat types, because of the other breeds of dogs that were bred in to achieve that type. The wires are more terrier-like, the longs more spaniel-like.

I would say gender has more to do with it. My males are more laid back and affectionate. My females are more demanding, sometimes cat-like. They're all friendly, but their personalities are all similar, but different. Also, one thing I've noticed is that two of my dogs were spayed/neutered before going into "puberty". They've seemed to stay more puppy-like and are less territorial than the other two.

I haven't noticed that color has any link to personality, but I have noticed that the L/H tend to be more independent and less snuggly and possessive than the smooth coats. At least that's the way mine have been. I haven't had a wire so I don't really know about them.

Good Question!

I have only 1 Dachshund ( I would love to get another)
This is my first time having a Dachise I was gonna say owning one but he owns me!!!

Casey is Tri coloured or as Juliette puts it Camoflauge. I have to say that he is by far the most fun I have ever had with a dog. I've had Border Collies, Shelties, Corgi's and Australian Cattledogs.
He gets his high energy where he races around the apartment at high speeds.
He has times when he just wants to chill out and snuggle.
He loves people more than other dogs. When i take him for a walk he seems to think that everyone wants to talk to him and pet him.
He loves play time, sleep time and even tv watching time.

I've never heard of Dachsie's having colour related personalities.

Have different colored coats. Blue, is a Dapple Doxie, and she is very, very outgoing! Not shy about anything! But Lady Bug, is a black and tan, and she seems very sweet, and shy. They are both very friendly, and havent met anyone they didnt like yet, but Lady Bug, is so small and sweet! Last night I caught her peeking up at me with those sweet little eyes, and I asked her what she wanted , and the look said it all! It was Moma, please , please pick me up and hold me look! How could I refuse!

Cricket and Bella were pretty opposite in temperment but do love to snuggle (both are red smooths). Cricket is more laid back, whereas Bella is high strung "gotta go gotta go". I think that some of their temperment comes along in their upbringing too. Kind of like kids to a certain extent. Raise them in a loving atmosphere where snuggling is encouraged, and for the most part you will have a loving snuggler. Raise a dog (or kid for that matter) in a hate filled environment, and you will most likely (but not always) get a hate filled result, IMO. Cricket and Bella are my first close encounters with Dachshunds so I really don't know if there is any difference in coats/colors temperments.

Wow. Substitute "Cassie" for Blue and "Angel (red/black overlay)" for Lady Bug (black and tan) and you are at my house!!! (except that Angel is bigger than Cassie) Must be a sister thing - I have started calling mine "Night and Day"!!

I don't think color necessarily predicts personality, but Cassie IS a carbon-copy of her canine daddy - small, dappled, noisy, and VERY outgoing. :D

We went over my cousins house for dinner last night, took Blue, and Lady Bug with us,and watched American Idol while we ate as well, and when we got ready to leave, i took Blue out to the truck before my husband came outside. Well, she DID NOT like leaving her Daddy, sat up in the seat, and cried for him, and whined until he came out to leave. Of course, it was only for a minute, but I think that to her it was an hour! :)
I agree with you though, I really do not think the color of the coat makes the personality either, it is the all in the way you love them, and raise them.
