View Full Version : Well, maybe it's not cute, but they want to tell of their hunting abilities

Our endlessly hunting tag team of Wotan and Shakti scored big today at the national monument park here. In a feat far harder than their endless daily hunts here at our house property in the tall grass and garden, they managed to stalk and kill a small rat while we were hiking. That's more difficult as we are always on the move so they don't have many seconds to hunt in any one area. They suddenly pounced in one waist high grassy area and Wotan popped up with a rat in his mouth. My husband shouted at him to drop it so he did....and it ran away enough for Shakti to get it again and finish it off. Yep, I did take pictures showing Shakti with it. Wotan may be almost 11 and showing lots of gray fur on his paws and muzzle but he still is fast! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/angryfire.gif

Loved your "rat" story, and your dachsie pages are wonderful! I read the "How to" on sleeping with them and had a good chuckle. But last night, I discovered that it's TRUE! They will NOT both sleep on the same side of the person. I'm babysitting my daughter's 10month B&T and didn't think the night time sleeping arrangement would be an issue as her pup and my 5 month little girl play 'til they almost drop, then they curl up next to each other for a rest up nap. Going to bed was a different story! They refused to sleep on the same side so I wound up being smashed between 2 dachsies for the better part of the night. I also made the mistake of sprawling out and one of them promptly crawled between my legs. I'm exhausted. I have one question - howcome the pups can make it through the night without having to pee, and *I* can't?

Glad you liked the hunting story and our dachsie web pages. Yes, our doxies hate to sleep on the same side in the human bed too. Although if they are *really exhausted* Gaudi will allow himself to be even touching Wotan (but never Shakti). I know what it's like to be a dachsie sandwich though...hope you get some sleep this coming night.

Don't have time to go to your dachsie pages,, but can't wait to do so (I will soon). I just had to quick say that I am so glad you taught those puppers to "drop it" or you would be breaking out the dental floss!! (YES, I remember those classic photos)

Isn't that true Anita. Glad you recalled those photos of Wotan getting his teeth flossed.....that reminds me that I still don't have those photos up on one of my web pages. I should have put them on my new page (which is all finished but the editing....when all looking in ship shape shape I will post about it on the board). Too bad I forgot about those scanned photos myself....they will have to get on my late Fall doxie web page to come.

How funny is that? We live in the country, so Rusty's big hunt is when he can find a lizard. I think it's a challenge to him because they're so fast...he'll sniff them out and pounce on them..it's sooo funny to watch.
