My Dachsie has a beautiful soft coat until you get done to the base of his tail. It gets rough and I've tried everything to fix it I tried dog conditioner but it didn't help and I give him a bath every week. He has an odd coat he isn't long hair but he isn't short hair hes is kind of a mix of the two. If anyone can help please reply Thx.

Too frequent bathing can lead to coat problems. In general unless they get into something smelly dachshunds only need a bath every three to nine months. I know Frank's coat takes a week or more to look it's best after each bath and I use a gentle puppy shampoo on his coat. He is a long hair and it takes that long for it's full sheen and silky feel to return.

Diet can affect a dogs coat as well as some health related issues. Have you ask you vet what they think? Ruling out any health problems is always a good starting point. Aggie (the little puppy mill mother rescue I had) had rather severe coat and skin problems when I got her. We finally got things cleared up with a diet of Avo-Derm and some vitamins prescribed by my vet. I kept meaning to try weaning her off of the vitamins and see if the Derm by itself would keep her in good shape but I lost her before I got the chance to test that out.

Good luck,
