Looking at the pictures of our prospective puppy she looks very light in color. I keep hearing about creme doxies but don't think I've ever seen an adult one. If anyone has a picture of an adult creme doxie please mail it to me or post it if can. My hubby is a little picky on colors and if he had a better idea of what she may look like he would be more willing to agree to her.

Sorry, don't have a picture of a cream. Is that what they are telling you she is? Are you sure that she genetically IS a cream? Many reds are born pretty light and can darken. From what I understand with creams, they are born darker than they will be as an adult.
I know that the English have quite a few creams and if there any websites from there that you can locate there might be some pic's. There are some sites in the US of 'breeders' that have labeled their dogs as creams and they are not so I wouldn't go by those unless it is a reputable breeder with some history in color genetics. IMHO http://www.networkone.net/~raisinl/Gabby.html
Here is a site for a picture of a dog that is from England (puppy picture) that is registered as a cream. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Hi Buddy's Mom
The "so called" true creams only come in longhair and were imported to this country from England .... A very light cream colored smooth is usually a clear red or a cinchilla red ... Some creams and clear reds Darken up as they get older to a more red color if the dog is a english cream its then called "shaded cream" if its a cinchilla red or clear red (same thing i believe) then it would just be labeled red!
Here is a link to see some true english cream imports http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I believe that a shaded cream are those creams with the black in them. They can have black ear fringes, saddles, etc.
A clear red, smooth or any other coat, is just that, a clear red. I don't think I have seen a red with the chinchilla factor but I would 'think' that would dilute the color out -but if it would be to a yellow cream or even paler (ie labrador color) I don't know.

I think that the chinchilla causes the red to fade kinda like a choc/tan is a faded blk/tan i think its the same factor that causes this ... not really sure just been doing a little reseach here and there and listening to good breeders talk...lol Its just ashame that ppl are sooooo out for a buck they will lable a smooth hair red chinchilla a cream so they can make extra $$ Then the pups grow up and they turn red and u have owners that dont know why and pedigrees that are false http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

Oops, sorry but chocolate and tan is not a faded black and tan. It is a recessive but not a faded color. A faded black and tan is a blue and tan.
And, unfortunately it is not only the unethical smooth breeders doing the mislabeling. There are many internet websites of supposedly ethical breeders (in their own minds and their clients minds) who have mislabeled the other coat colors also. There are double dapples being called piebalds, there are dapples and piebalds and brindles being bred together to muddy the color waters (you are only allowed by AKC to use one color pattern per registration) on the pedigrees also. It is a mess and all for the green! All we can strive to do is educate the people that color is not important and it shouldn't be priced higher than a 'normal' color dog. If they won't pay the price, the money hungry people will have nothing to push to those who want something 'rare' or 'unusual'.

Ted-E is gorgeous but I believe he is really a very light red. Though it is hard to tell from photos some times

True creams show up in Mini longhairs and don't show any red on them at all... If they show any other color on their body it would be an overlay of black hair.
Merry's breeder has done a lot or research on creams and has written a couple of articles on them http://dachshund-nmdc.org/pdfs/Doc114.pdf is one of them.
I did find this picture of some cream puppies.

The Chinchilla Gene IS the Cream Gene. It dilutes the Red to Cream in double doses. Some people breed poorly pigmented reds to other poorly pigmented reds, the result is even more poorly pigmented reds, the red gets so washed out it turns a whitish color, the Puppy Mills LOVE to fool the public into believing they have a cream puppy. As far as the website you posted to show true english creams....Oh sure she has some and even on the english cream page she says don't be fooled by people claiming to have true english creams, then go to her puppy page and see her Cream Wires. Her website and the conditions of her puppies is a DISGRACE! JMO of course!
PS: Ted-E is a Washed out Red!!

Yes, If you were meaning the website I got the puppy picture from. I don't know the breeder or endorse them in any way... I was just looking for a pic of a cream to compare with Ted_E. I just didn't want to steal the picture. :)

Sorry Karen, I guess I should have clarified. I was talking to Jen ( ~8DachsieAngels~) and the posting of the GB Dachshunds site.

Just as an FYI, this is a really, really, REALLY OLD THREAD. It was started way back in June of 2000 and was recently resurrected!! Not that the information isn't good, but ~8DachsieAngels~ isn't a member anymore so she won't see the new posts. :)

Since it was I just wanted to try and clear up the confusion between diluted Reds and Creams... A lot of BYB and Mills pass off the Dilutes as Creams on a regular basis. (for big bucks)
BTW... the site I got the picture from seems to be a decent breeder (that is not an endorsement... they just look a few cuts above the other breeder link Beckie mentioned)
