I know that there are not many members in my area but thought I would post this anyway! The Northern Virginia Dachshund Meetup group will be gathering at A Dog's Day Out in Vienna VA at 10:30am on Saturday March 19, 2005. It will be a small meeting but it is a start. We are expecting about 7 pups to be there. :)

Hi,
What exactly do you do at a meet up?? I live in Fauquier County, so Vienna isn't too far (actually graduated from Madison High, loooooooong time ago!!). Not sure I could make it on a Saturday, but maybe. Any chance there are meet ups during the weekdays?

This will be my first Meet up as well. The place where we are meeting is a Doggie Day Care so they will have an area fenced off inside their facility for just our pups to get to know each other and play. It will also give us the opportunity to meet each other. I am always looking to meet new people especially ones that have the same love for dachsies! You can go to www.meetup.com, put in Dachshund and your zip code. It will then lead you to meetup groups in your area. Their is a meetup group in Warrenton but it only has one member. The Northern Virginia group has about 29 but I think only 6 or so of us are currently active. Our organizer is Kelly, you should let her know if you think that you might be coming on the 19th. I think she needs to give the facility a count of pups so that they can fence off a large enough area. I look foward to meeting you if you can make it!

It would be great if you could make it. It does sound like it is going to be alot of fun! If you can't make it this month maybe the following month will work better.

Next month would probably work better... let me know when you have a date! We'd love to see Rex with other doxies. :circle:
Yesterday we went for a walk at Wheaton Regional Park, and happened to find out that there is a fenced dog park there. It was a little scary for me, because he hadn't been around too many dogs since we adopted him-- and because there was one area for everyone- big and little dogs together.
Rex actually did pretty well- I spent most of the time being scared one of the big dogs would eat him as a snack- he was the smallest one there! :faint: But, he held his own. A few of the bigger dogs chased him a bit, but the other owners were good about watching things so nothing got out of control. He had a good time playing with some pugs, and other smaller mixes there. We'll take him back again sometime soon. But this hoomom would MUCH rather see him with dachshunds of his own size!!!

Yes, I had gone to that website and saw that Warrenton had a group, I was never contacted, so guess nobody is interested. Anyway, I probably won't be there this month, maybe some other time. Sounds like it would be great fun for all!

I will keep you all posted on the outcome of this meeting and the status of upcoming events. Maybe if this doesn't pan out we can get together on our own.

Max and I want to come. I have been waiting for a meeting in Northern VA. Max is a little shy, so I hope he will be ok. I will see if I can email Kelly to tell her I will be there.

I posted a couple pics in the Brag Book section here (http://dachsie.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=17233). The next meeting is Saturday April 16 at 10:30am at the same place. I may not be able to make that one, it all depends on my son's soccer schedule. You should try to make that one, the pups had a great time.

Yay!! I told my husband about it, and we don't have anything on the agenda yet, so most likely we will be able to make it! Hopefully there will be a good turnout.
I checked www.meetup.com and apparently there is another group that meets in Maryland in Montgomery County somewhere. When I find out more details about that, I'll let everyone know! :)
