Buck was bathed just before coming to us in October by his previous owner who bathed him regularly as he was in a breeding kennel. We got him a nice bath, trim, and nails done just before Christmas. I told the groomer, who had done our cocker spaniel for years a while back, that the only person who had ever bathed/groomed him was his previous owner and that his nails had never been done because he was on concrete. When we went to pick him up she was very nice about it and said he could come back but that he was very afraid, naturally, and quite nippy.....watch out for that one tooth :yikes: I have been using wipes on Buck but he definitely has a doggy smell about him and I'm going to try bathing him myself. He always stands up on the side of the tub when my daughter is bathing (like he wants in) so that is a good sign I think. Any tips at all on bathing (i.e. shampoos/soaps, etc) that you folks can give me would be most appreciated.

I just gave my two a bath late last night - it was like 1 am because oh man did they both stink. I use shampoo from my vet for dry skin becuase both of mine are such flakes (I mean have a lot of flakes :D ).

It depends on his temperment I guess. We don't have a tub so we put Tasha in the shower stall, run a sprayer hose from the bathroom sink and she just stands there sulkily while we bathe her. I do have to hang onto her to make sure she doesn't jump out....but she's quite tolerant. She was really "doggy" smelling after the beach trip so she just had a bath on Sunday. Good luck!

I bathed Napoleon today too. He had some weird gunk on his chest and was flaky. I used coal tar shampoo for the flakes, then sprayed him with Crazy Dog cologne. It makes him extra soft and smelling great! You can get both of those things at Petsmart or most pet stores, I'd think.
I bathed him in the kitchen sink and I bought a rubber sink mat so he wouldn't slip around. He was actually good about it and stood there pretty patiently during the bath. Then of course he ran around the house doing the zoomies when we were done. Silly boy!! :D
As for nail trimming, bribe, bribe, bribe. Napoleon is still a brat but will settle just long enough for me to trim them if I give him a little piece of treat after I cut each nail.

oh, the zoomies! I love those. You have to jump out of the way for fear of being run down by a rocket weiner! That's what we call Olana when she gets the zoomies!

I know that I could never take Molly to the groomer. She went a couple of times but was so terrified that I never put her thru that again. Molly didn't mind baths one bit at home. This might sound weird but our pups get showers. When it's bath time I plop them down in the shower with me. They get a bath and handed off to dad who dries them. Seems like they are much more comfortable that way and it's much easier. Worth a try.
