Is it ok to give the durable nylabones to a puppy unsupervised? I need to be able to give our pup something to chew on during the day when we're not home or when he's in his crate. They seem indestructable, but I want to be sure it's OK.

Thanks :)

Durable Nylabones are very, very strong. But they AREN'T indestructible- I don't think there's much that is. ;)

If he's never been able to do much damage to them when you're around, though- it's highly unlikely that he'll have trouble with one unsupervised. They're one of the only chews that I would be willing to leave my guys with, alone.

A stuffed Kong (providing he's not a Kong-killer) is the other thing on that short, puppy-safe list- but truthfully, puppies in a crate sleep a lot- and don't need MUCH to keep them occupied.

I've been giving Nylabones for years and never seen any of my dogs be able to scrape off more than tiniest shard. I think they would be safe to leave alone. Try the liver flavored ones. :facelick:

Nylabones, boodas and kongs are the only things I trust in the x-pen with Harley. He will chew apart anything!

When the booda bones get broken in half or pieces (Yes, he does that - have no clue how!), I don't leave the smaller pieces in with him. He's got lots of them in all different flavors though. We've had one nylabone since he was a puppy and he's only chewed the ends but still loves it.

Occassionally, he chews on them but most of the time I think he's sleeping. Sometimes I will sneak in the house and catch him all wrapped up in a ball looking at me as to say "oh, you're home?"

I highly recommend them, but each dog is different. The nylabones is something i have left out with my dog all day while i was gone since day one. He did wear the puppy one down (the bacon flavored orange one) but that took a long time, and i only threw it out b/c i didn't want him to put it in his mouth whole. I would be really impressed if yours could gnaw that down in one day, so just keep checking how he is doing on it. Mine doens't usually even play with toys during the day while i am gone (i have a sneaking suspicion he sleeps all day) and does most of his bone chewing in the evening. I have an adult nylabone, that my Justice has had for a good six months and he has barely gnawed the end off one end. I don't give him anything else bone related other than nylabone.

Gigi had 2 and it's very durable... there is a tiny bit on the top that was chewed. So it is fine with Gigi. But it's true that every dog is different. I will observe for a few days before giving it to your dog unsupervise. My mom's Shih Tzu loves her bone and will chew it down very quick.

I would think they would be safe for almost all dogs. Be aware though that not al dogs enjoy them. Once my boys figured out they can't get any thing off them they lost all interest in them.
