View Full Version : Long Legs

Augie Dog

I know long legs are not the standard and Aug is not AKC either, but I was wondering if anyone else has a doxie with longer than usual legs.

Aug is 100% doxie but a mix of standards, minis, reds, B&T's and dapple. (but, he picked us, you know how that goes)

Or maybe he is just big for his size and the legs are just growing at a different rate than the rest of him. 5 months now and he is at 14 lbs. Lean, loads of adult teeth already! Just don't know. Anyone with ideas?

Maybe his body just needs to catch up to his legs... kinda like kids ... i have one thats long legged Harley my piebald i honestly dont think shes all doxie more like MinPin x Chihuahua x Dachshund cross or something ... Check out her legs ... short but by my definition not dachsie short like my others plus her ears cock up somewhat....lol

Augie's ears do the same thing!

How do you post a pic like that. I could give a link to a web site, but I just want to post the pic.

Owen's Mom

Owen has long legs for a dachshund (if you can really call 3 or so inches long http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif) His trainer said that he's obviously from european lines, rather than American. American lines tend to be lower to the ground with a longer back. European are a little longer in the leg with a shorter back. Owen's not very short in the back, but it might look more so, because his legs are a little longer. I noticed on the World Dog Show that Owen really favored the winner (Standard Black & Tan).

He's legenthed a lot since then, it's been over a year, and he's up to at least 22 lbs now. He didn't even look like a dachshund to me when I first saw him, I was so used to seeing the little sqatty dachsies. Now I just see perfection http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

This is Augie at 17 weeks. You can see the legs a little here.

Here is another one at 17 weeks. Now that I know how to do this, you will be seeing a lot more of Son-of-Mine.

I can't believe I missed this thread. WHAT CUTIES! Auggie is becoming quite a handsome little man. A little bit of a mix is kinda neat and it might be better for their backs.

Jen, where did you get your dogs?

My boys have the same father and have totally different body shapes but are both pure doxie. At least that's what the papers say. I think a standard snuck into Frankie's line. Who know. Who cares? As long as there's no Yorkie in them, I'm happy. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

Jen,
My Maggie has a very similar build to your cutie Harley. We got her from W.V so I've never seen her parents, but I believe she is doxie through and through. She's 11 months old now and as she's matured her chest has broadened and developed that charecteristic v shape. Of course her legs are still the same length, but appear shorter due to her deeper chest. Her ears also have that "perky look".
Here is a photo of her at 6 and 1/2 months - when she first came to Maine!

Oh my gosh!!! I am so glad I came across this thread. I have also always wondered about Reubens legs. We tease and say that he is a CHA-DACH. His legs are longer and his ears are shorter. Reuben's shape resembles Aug, but he is tannish red. I saw his mother and aunt on premises and they were what you would call the average mini. Go Figure! He sure does smell like a dachsie - MMM, MMM GOOD! <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm16.gif" border=0>

As Augie is getting older, he is getting tanner and whiter. But, there is a DARK RED STRIPE down the middle of his back that does not change.

HI EVERYONE,
I JUST FOUND YOUR SITE AND I'M SO HAPPY TO KNOW THAT OTHERS HAVE THE SAME QUESTION AS I ABOUT MY MINI BLACK AND TAN DAPPLE DOXIE MALE. HIS NAME IS BOUNCER, HE'S GREAT, BEAUTIFUL AND A LOT OF FUN, VERY AFFECTIONATE AND LIVELY. BUT I WONDER AS I LOOK AT MANY PICS OF DOXIES AND THEY'RE BACK LEGS LOOK SO SQUAT COMPARED TO MY BOUNCERS STRAIGHT BACK LEGS. THEY JUST DON'T HAVE THAT BENT LOOK...AND I WONDER TOO IF HE'S A PURE BRED...I HAVE HIS PAPERS AND 3 GENERATIONS OF BLOODLINES. HIS PARENTS WERE BOTH STANDARDS, THE MINIS ARE IN HIS GRANDPARENTS LINEAGE. WHEN I BOUGHT HIM I DIDN'T ASK TO SEE THE PARENTS, I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITHT THE LITTLE GUY AND DIDN'T NOTICE THEN THAT HE WAS ALITTLE DIFFERENT. WHEN HE STANDS, WALKS AND RUNS, THE BACK LEGS REMAIN FAIRLY STRAIGHT. HIS FRONT LEGS LOOK MORE DOXIE THAN THE BACK LEGS. THIS IS A CONFIRMATION FAULT OR THE BREEDER MAYBE HAD A MIX UP SOMEWHERE. BUT I'M REALLY HAPPY TO KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS QUESTION. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INFORMATION AND REPLYS.

This thread you have posted to is about 5 years old :yikes: so most of the people posting here about this topic are probably no longer on the DBB!! But other members will be happy to help you... can you post a picture of Bouncer so we can get a better idea of the legs look like?
