I may regret admitting this, but Hans and Bean have not had a bath in over a year. They never smell, and have never had any flea problems. I brush their teeth once a week (yes, I know I should do it every day-I'm trying), so they never seem 'dirty'.
Should I bathe them on a regular basis? Their coats seem healthy?

No need to bathe them if they don't smell!!! I do bathe mine about every 10 -12 weeks because they need their glands expressed and that makes them smell. I still use tearless, mild puppy shampoo -even on adults sicne it does not dry them out.
It IS important not to bathe too often or to use most human products since it affects their skin pH and strips their natural protective oils. I'd say every 6-8 weeks at the most, or never at all if they don't need it.
One thing I LOVE -those nubby grooming mitts. A brush with that a few times a week gets off dirt and dead hair and the action stimulates and spread the natural oils too.

Once a week for the Augster! He gets into the shower with me. Johnsons baby shampoo. He seams to be keeping all his oils and his skin is fine.
Ask anyone at the scranton doxie day, aug's coat is like silk and skin in great shape.
