It seems that Mitzi neck hair is breaking off because of her collar. I've tried several different types and am at my wits end at what to do. Being that Mitzi is an escape artist I have to leave it on her while she is in the house just in case she gets lose. What kind of collar would solve this problem? Thanks

Shonda

PS I'll try to get a photo of her so you can see what is happening.

I would look for a round leather collar made of a soft leather such as kangaroo or calf skin. I have seen some beautiful ones at dog shows but they aren't cheap. There are also some very soft nylon collars called mes amis. I have seen them at shows but don't know where else to get them.

I keep Penny and Maggie's collars on them 24/7, too. We are careful not to adjust the collars too tightly and that seems to protect the fur a little bit, too.
We've had very good luck with 1/2" width Lupine collars. They're made of a soft, flexible webbing. I've noticed that depending on the design some are "thinner" and softer than others, too, but Penny's neck looked good even when she wore the slightly thicker leaves design.
Although just about everyone around carries Lupine, I've not seen the 1/2" collars in catalogs. We get ours at pet stores or the vet's office. They cost $7 or $8 and have a lifetime guarentee, even if chewed.
