is there any way to tell how big a puppy will be full grown? like a 7.5 lb six monthold??? his mom is 9.5 lbs and dad is 8.5 lbs!!!

Searching back in the DBB archives it seems a general rule of thumb is double what they 4 month weight is and that might give you a guesstimate of what the adult weight would be.,, and a guess is all it would be. Just like people some grow faster, some slower that others. You would think the weight of the parents would play into that *BUT* that is not true... There may be bigger dogs back in each of the parents lines that also influence the pups final size.

Schatz is a good example of that happening. His mother was 11 lbs and his dad was 9 lbs. Schatz at 6mths is almost 14 lbs and not the least bit of fat on him.

My understanding is that miniature dachshunds were "bred down" in size from standards so there is always a chance of a throwback. I had a pup whose parents were 11 lbs and she hit 11 lbs at 6 mos! Full grown she was 18 - 20 lbs. You can't really tell.
