I was just thinking that I have never seen a wirehaired dapple of any kind.

Are there wire dapples?

What about brindles?

What about chocolates?

What about creams?

I am not looking for one or anything, I'm just curious, as I don't know much about wire colors. I have seen some wire piebalds though.

If there are not any of these patterns/colors in wire coats is because of the breed standard, or because they would be very hard to produce genetically in a wire coat?

Don't worry ladies, I am not attempting to breed, nor am I advising anyone to do so. Like I said before, I'm just curious.

Thanks!

I have not seen in wires in those patterns either, so I don't think such is possible. Not exactly sure, though.

Yes all colors, except cream, and patterns are available in wirehairs. Brindles wouldn't show up very well because the hairs are already banded in many cases so that would muddy the pattern. Yes there have been champion dapple wirehairs...the spotting factor does make the coat more difficult for the show ring however as the texture is affected.
Some think that wheaten wires and cream are the same and that is not the case. A wheaten wire is genetically a red, just light in shade. I have not ever seen a cream in anything except longhairs and we certainly don't want to cross those two coats to obtain it http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
And yes there are chocolate and tan wires. I've seen more in the standard size in that color than the miniatures.

Hey Cindi what you don't want a Cream Smooth bred to a wire??of corse the smooth is a cross coat already so why not have 1 more with 3 coats in the litter.Ha Ha

Thanks Cindi.

So dilutes are possible in wires too then I assume.

I knew that a wheaten was the same as red genetically and that wild boar is the same as red sable genetically, but from there I got confused.

Do you perhaps know of a site where I could see a picture of a dappled wire? You could email me the site, if it is not a site you'd feel comfortable posting publically. I know that many of the sites with good color pics are often not reputable breeders and so we don't want to promote them.

The National Miniature Dachshund Club produced a stud book register at one time that had lovely pictures but I can't find it right now. I don't go looking at 'those sites' so I can't direct you. I'm going to try and scan a picture of my smooth out of dapple wire to black/tn wire...of course I got a dapple smooth but he was sooooo pretty that we did show him and finish him.
Yes dilutes are possible in wires. I have a black/gray and cream (instead of a black and tan) wire and have had a gray and cream before (no relation). I don't know why the dilutes are born at my house!! And of course the coats are much softer when dilution is a factor.
