Well guys, I thought I'd start a new thread here, because that other one was getting kinda large, and some people have a hard time loading the page. Plus, we're going to be adding lots of pictures, I hope, so we need a fresh new space for those!!!
Dachsie Days 2000 finally got here after months of planning and boy did wePARTY!!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/party.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/party.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/party.gif
We really lucked out with the weather, it was just BEAUTIFUL! I think we had our event in between the raindrops, because it rained up until Friday afternoon, and then yesterday(Sunday), it rained almost all day long! But luckily for us, the heavens were smiling on us! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/angel.gif
As Georgie already mentioned, the attendees were:
Georgette and her 2 sisters Gail and Gerie. They brought Gabby and Danny. Marci came with her 2 sons and fiancee, and she brought cute little Lucy. Lanie came with her daughter Liz and they brought Pluto. And David brought Augie. I came with my husband Chris and my mom, Marilyn. We brought Mickey and Oscar.
It was so GREAT to finally meet everyone. We've been chatting so long, but it was so nice to finally put a name to a face...and of course, meet the puppers!
If no one minds, I'll give everyone my take on the puppers:
Gabby - what a princess! It took her a little while to warm up to everyone, but once she did, she had a GREAT time running around, chasing the other dogs, getting some treats. Very friendly, but you can tell she LOVES to be pampered. I could hear her saying "Don't hate me cause I'm beautiful...just love me!"
Danny - I could tell he was VERY sweet. He seems a little more shy and reserved, and sensitive, but I don't think he was feeling quite himself. He was at the vets the day before getting a shot for his back...I hope that he's feeling better! He's such a cute boy and so sweet. You can tell that he's very loyal, dedicated, and protective of Georgie and her sisters...a tride and true dachshund!
Pluto - he was the older gentleman of the group. Pluto is 11yrs old, but boy is he in good shape. I hope that Mickey will live to be that age, and if he does, that he's JUST LIKE PLUTO! Pluto was so sweet and gentle. He just let me pick him up and kiss him. He didn't flinch or try to get down, he just let me lavish him with some attention. But for being the only senior in the group, he'd never let his age show because he was running and playing with the whole group. He was having such a great time. He loved meeting his new friends and if I were to guess, he's probably putting pressure on Lanie to get him another friend for him to play with!
Augie - the baby of the group! At only 5 mths, Augie was a true puppy in every sense of the word! He was larger than life! He had so much energy and just wanted to play, play, play! He gave everything his 200%. What a cutie-patootie! He just had a beautiful face and a very sweet temperment. His fur was so soft, I could just sit there and pet him all day long....not that he'd sit too long to let you pet him. There are WAY to many things for him to explore, especially at this age!
Lucy - what a looker! She was the tiniest of the group at only 8 pounds, but was sure a spitfire with all her energy! She was just a beautiful little dog. My mom is still talking about her beautiful long black hair. And what a sweetie pie! Lucy has such a great personality! She's a real lover, but yet loves to run and play. She and Mickey chased one another all over the field most of the day!
Oscar - I was proud of Oscar. I thought he did really well. I know that Oscar is a really sweet boy, but I was just hoping that he could relax enough to let himself have a good time. He reminds me a lot of Danny, in that Oscar likes to have things a certain way, and if things stray from that norm, Oscar gets a little out of sorts. But Oscar REALLY had a good time on Saturday. He's still talking about it! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif Once he realized that he could have a good time, he loosened up and enjoyed meeting all the other doggies.
And lastly, Mickey - well, I was a little concerned at first. Mickey has that agressive streak in him and when we all met in the parking lot, Mickey was a wild man. He would not relax for a second. The first muzzle didn't make it very long, but thank goodness we had a backup muzzle. That one stayed on. But he wouldn't let anyone get near him!
Once we got up to the field, we kept the muzzle on, but took the leash off and let him meet the doggies on his own terms. It seems like once we did that, he adjusted REALLY well! Within a few minutes, I could tell that he didn't need his muzzle. He really got into play day. He ran and ran and ran. He chased and was chased. He was fetching balls. He was just having a great time. I was very proud of him!
After everything broke up, some of us went out to dinner and that was really nice. During the play time, we were all focused on the dogs, but at dinner, we were actually able to TALK to one another. I really enjoyed talking to Lanie and her daughter, and Georgie. It was nice getting to learn more about my new friends than I would get to know from the posts on the board.
Overall, I had a great day. I'm still having a hard time coming down from the high of that day. I find myself thinking about it a lot, and I can't wait to get some pictures to share with everyone. Thank you to all who came and made this a
