Hello. I am new to the board and am much heartened by all the wonderful words of advice in the other postings. Lulu has just entered out lives and she is beautiful.

One issue that we are having is that she is waking up twice in the middle of the night and cries until we go to her. When we go to her and press our hands against the gate to her "den" she immediately falls asleep. There are others in the household and I do not want to wake them so I have given in to her cries in order to not wake the others. She wakes at 4 am and then at 6 am. I wouldn't mind her sleeping with me but she needs to pee four or five times in the middle of the night. A few nights I just grabbed my comforter and sleep in front of the gate since my family and I all had a big day ahead of us and we all needed to sleep.

What is the best thing I should do?

A few questions: How old is Lulu? Is she a young pup? If so, she'll probably grow out of the crying as she gets used to being away from the rest of the litter. If she won't tear it up, you might try giving her a plushy stuffed animal to sleep with, something with your scent on it to comfort her. Also, when you refer to her "den," is she in a crate or in a larger gated area? I'm wondering where she's peeing during the night.

Hi. Lulu is two and a half months old. Her den is in my bedroom's bathroom (which is very large) and holds four pads, a pillow and a carpeted play area with toys. She can see me from where she is. Thanks.

This is what I tell my puppy buyers. If you do not have a crate get one not a huge one if she is a standard get a 200 size a mini a 100 size.If it is to big she will want to wet in it a small den size will help her to sleep not get up and walk around so she has to go.Put the crate next to your bed at night close so you can reach out and touch it if she starts to cry or flop around a lot smack the front of the cage and tell her quiet do it over and over till she gets the idea.As she sleeps more and more all night move the cage farther from your bed if she cries strongly say quiet! She should get the idea in no time. All 6 of my dogs sleep in their cages at night in our bedroom when it's bedtime they get told it's nite nite time they go to their cage and get in and sleep all night our pups are all trained this way and our buyers say every pup that goes to it's new home sleeps all night even when they go at 10 weeks old.Tudox
