Schatz is about 26 inches long from his nose to his rear end. This does not include his tail! When he stretches out on the floor next to my beagle they are about the same length! He weighs about 15 pounds now so I'm guessing he is a small standard. He outgrew the mini status at about 4 month old! He is now 8 months old and my vet said he should be done growing. He just seems very long. He will always be my baby no matter what size he is!

I just tried to measure Dexter who squirmed the whole time I think he is about 21 inches long not counting his tail which is long. He weights close to 10 lbs at 11 months. His weight hasn't changed in a couple of months I really think he is done growing.

Connie,

He is a good length for his body shape and weight. Some doxies are just longer than others.

Petunia looks like her head and neck is to small for her body---but we love her. Maybe female dogs look like that I don't know, she is my first female.

Pretty, pretty Petunia...I can't believe your mommy said that about you! No wonder you chew up her things!

Now Tanya that was funny. :) She does look like her head is small for her body---but maybe girl doxies look like that:dunno1: her body looks like a little sausage LOL. BOY does she like to torment Gunner. I will post her harness later, working on the attachable skirt. PS--don't tell Petunia I said that, she already tried to chew on my nose:D

It's funny, I get these questions like "He seems awfully long..." or "He seems awfully short..." then tack on either "...for a beagle" or "..for a mini basset" when strangers ask about Dewey. Honest to goodness, the "mini basset" comment took me by surprise.

When I look at Dandy and Dewey, I can't help but notice that Dewey is the brawnier, more stocky looking of the two. I've also had another male doxie come to visit and noticed the same characteristic. Do the females tend to be longer and lithe in body? I guess in my case, the answer is yes. But I'm sure body types tend to vary depending on where the dog came from.

The longer the body, the shorter the legs, the more Dachshund-y he looks! I love the differences between dachsies. Just appreciate his beautiful puppy figure! :) Mr. Butters has the too-small head thing going on, so I don't think it's just females! Rigby is perfectly sized, head, length and all. But that's her main quality- her perfect beauty, whereas with Butters, it's all personality!

That's funny that people think Dewey is a beagle or basset!! Poor Dewey. He is ADORABLE. He just reminds me of a jock - he is compact but very solid, like a muscular running back. Not long and lean like a gymnast. :) I will have to measure Napoleon - I think he is like 15 inches long, but he is very petite.

Poor Schatz, mommy picking on you, Aunt Tanya is right :D ! Snickers is one looong doxie, when she walks - she looks like a slinkie, shoulders & hips go one way and tummy goes the other, she's so funny to watch walk :circle:
