View Full Version : Nail Trimming
Zoey's Mommy

Zoey used to be so good about nail trimming. There were times when she would fall asleep while I was doing it. Then we got her spayed and now she hates it. I guess the vet scared her. She fights the whole time making it nearly impossible and causing me to go a little to far sometimes(blood). The worst part is she gets this awful look w/ the nose all scrunched up and the teeth and she actually bites me while I'm doing it. She never does this any other time. I tried popping her on the nose, but that doesn't help. I don't want to stop because then she will have won and that would encourage the biting, but I also don't want to continue to let her bite me. I don't know if there is a different method or what I need to try. I usually sit on the couch and put her on her back in my lap. I use the nail scissor type thing if that is of any use. Please help.
Thanks

I have the SAME problem with my 8-year-old female. She will reluctantly let me cut her front nails but NO WAY the back. She turns into a devil when I even try to touch her back feet!!!
I do not recall ever clipping her too close so I do not know why she acts this way either!!! The vet said that the hound group have sensitive feet and this could be why. She is the most gentle dog but not when you touch her feet! She will actually go to bite me too. I've thought of putting a muzzle on her but hate the thought. I need suggestions as well!

I gave up trying to do Rufus' on my own. What a nightmare. He makes such a fuss that I now take him to the groomer when needed and for a "mere" $7.00 I have her do them. Funny thing is that he did not squirm or cry or anything for her. Go figure.

Chloe freaks out when we try to clip her nails. We have the vet do it for $10. I can't stand the idea of missing and making her feet bleed.
My neighbors min pins hate it as well, but she is more ambitious than I am. She sits down and spreads out the special grooming towel and gets out the tools. She then feeds them a little treat after she clips each nail. It works really well for her.
