HI,
I WAS JUST WONDERING, WHAT IS A DREMEL, IF ITS WHAT I THINK IT IS (NAIL SANDER) LIKE IN THE NAIL SALONS....IT MAY BE HURTING THE PUP....
WHEN A NAIL SANDER IS USED, FROM MY EXPERIENCE WITH ARTIFICIAL NAILS, IT HEATS UP THE NAIL BED AND THAT HURTS :yikes: SO WHEN A PUP OR DOG GETS IT DONE TO THEM I WOULD IMAGINE IT COULD ALSO HAPPEN, IF I AM WRONG AND A DREMEL IS NOT WHAT I THINK IT IS PLEASE LET ME KNOW, THANKS :) BUT IF IT DOES SAND DOWN THE NAIL....ITS GOT TO HEAT THAT POOR DOGS NAIL BED...AND THAT HURTS....I THINK I WOULD PREFER CAREFUL NAIL CLIPPING TO THE DREMEL....

Here is the proper Dremel (http://homepages.udayton.edu/~merensjp/doberdawn/dremel/dremel.html) technique.

HI,
I JUST READ THE ARTICLE ON THE DREMEL TECHNIQUE, IT STILL MAKES ME CRINGE, IN MY OPINION...AND I'M NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE, I JUST WORRY ABOUT THE DOGS NAIL HEATING UP FROM THE GRINDING AND THE PAIN THE DOGS MAY BE GOING THRU. MAYBE IT DOESN'T HURT...BUT FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE EVEN WITH THOSE BIG NAIL FILES THEY USE AT THE NAIL SALONS, THEY ALSO HEAT UP THE NAIL BED AND CAN BURN. I WAS THINKING OF FILING BOUNCER'S NAILS DOWN CAUSE THE'RE BLACK AND I'M AFRAID TO CUT THEM, BUT THEN I THOUGHT ABOUT THE CHANCE OF BURNING THE POOR LITTLE GUYS NAIL QUICK...OMG, SO I TAKE HIM TO PETSMART AND LET THEM TRIM THEM...

THANKS FOR THE HELPFUL INFO,

ALWAYS,

TWEETY AND BOUNCER :wavey:

We started dremeling the girls' nails a few weeks ago and it's going very well. Lexie is absolutely terrified of having her nails clipped, and we really didn't think she'd go for the dremel, but she's doing great. She even yawns while we're doing her nails. Finally a use for that dremel I just had to have a few years ago!! :D

I don't Dremel myself, but when I take Charlie to get his nails done they trim them and then Dremel them so they're not so sharp. He doesn't indicate in any way that it hurts him. I think he even prefers the dremelling (sp?) to the actual cutting of the nails.

I would love to purchase a Dremmel! Where can I purchase one that doesn't cost alot of money??????? What do they look like?????

Casey struggles whenI cut his nails and Sophie......Well, she is used to having hers dremmeled. I put the clippers close to her tootsie's, she ran away! I'm not even gonna try it!!!

The whole nail clipping/filing thing is what made me start taking Julius to the groomers once a month in the first place.
(Well actually he gets his bathe, brush, massage package once a month, but we take him in for his nails twice a month.....they grow pretty fast.)
I just wasn't able to get him to calm down when I cut his nails myself. He'd just cry and freak out before I'd even clip one. (Drama boy!) So now, he goes once a month and doesn't even mind the clipping and filing with the dremel. I watch them do his nails, and he does great. MUCH better than when I did them, and The dremel make them oh so smooth.

Let me tell you, NOTHING is worse than a doggies nails being freshly clipped with no dremel afterwards. OUCH! (and IMOHM I dont think the dremel hurts)

You can get a (cordless) dremel @ Walmart---just under $20 --very low power--won't get hot like the more powerful (corded models). Perfect for nails.
