Our sweet precious Dodger went to the Bridge today at 1pm. We adopted him June 2002, he had been at the shelter for several days and had been found running on the freeway. He was an older gentleman and was quite lively and did lots of marking when we brought him home. We got him neutered as soon as possible and he never marked again. Dodger was the sweetest little guy and never complained, he wasn't the best at house training but who cares when your senior some things your entitled too. One of Dodger's favorite things to do was to chase raccoons off the front porch at night as he was big man in this houseold. He also loved to be covered with a warm flannel blankie. We will miss him terribly, before his passing I hugged and kissed him but I don't know if he even knew we were there.

Thanks to all of you for sending your hugs, thoughts, rays and prayers they were very much appreciated.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers this evening. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. You gave Dodger the best 3 years in his life! It's awful when we lose our little one's. I must say Thank you for adopting a senior and giving him the love and devotion he so desperately needed in his final years. :hugs1:

Dear Patt, this is my first post to the board for ages (not through choice) and I just had to write and say how very sad and sorry I am to hear about your precious Dodger. I hope you are comforted by knowing that you gave him 3 wonderfully happy years, bless his heart.
Even though 16 months have passed, I still shed tears for my Herbie and I find this verse very comforting. You may have heard it before but I wanted to post it just in case it helps you in your grief. If Tonya reads this, I hope she may find it comforting too as she grieves for her own precious angel. With very best wishes, Vicky (the only UK member?) and Scooby x

You were never masters, but friends. I was your friend.
I loved you well, and was loved. Deep love endures
To the end and far past the end. If this is my end,
I am not lonely. I am not afraid. I am still yours.

Patt . . .

We know that you know . . . we feel your pain. We are here for you . . . we are here with you.

Dodger is in a better place . . . at the Bridge, with Wimpy . . . they are playing together until we arrive to cross the Bridge together. :)

Oh Patt! I am so sorry about Dodger's passing. I know that he was loved and that he loved life. The fact that he loved to be covered with a warm flannel blankie just warms my heart. Dodger was such a sweet little boy and in the last week, everytime I logged on, I wondered how Dodger was doing. He touched my heart.

I wish I could be there to give you more comfort. :hugs1: :hugs1:

:( I saw his name when I clicked on New Posts and I closed my eyes, because I didn't want to see that it was in the Memorials section. Your sweet boy knew you loved him. We are thinking of you and your husband at this difficult time.

... and as you have so thoughtfully done many times before for so many of the dachsies on this board, I will light a candle for your Dodger.

We will miss him terribly, before his passing I hugged and kissed him but I don't know if he even knew we were there.

:( You have my deepest sympathies! :hugs1: You gave Dodger pure love in his golden years. He seemed to be down on his luck, and found himself in the arms of a giving, nuturing and loving soul. Thank you for rescuing a senior and opening up your heart. I'm positive Dodger knew how much you cherished him. I will light a candle for the brave racoon chasing Dodger tonight. Hugs for you. :hugs1:

I'm so sorry for your loss - I know that Dodger was loved and will be missed an awful lot. He was very lucky to have found his way to you where he was able to enjoy his final years. Now, he is young, healthy and running at the bridge. Take care - you will be in my thoughts.

There must be a very very special place for those who rescue seniors. And a very special place in heaven though not at all separate from kindred spirits. I have a 17 year old senior (adopted) and I so wish he'd live forever. We "know" differently and still our hearts long. Love to you.

And I want you to know that I will be saying a prayer for you today, as well. I know what you are going through, and It is hard. But you were one of those rare people that take on an older pup, that not alot of people would do, and you are an angel for that. He knew that you were with him, and he will always love you for that. I believe that he is now playing happily at the Rainbow Bridge, with all of the other sweet furbabies, that have left us for a better place.

to you and your family Patt on the loss of Dodger. He was dearly loved and knew it and was sent to you so that he could spend his last three years in your loving home. It was a 2-way street - he enriched and touched your lives too. Take comfort that he knew he was deeply loved and that you were a wonderful and caring dachsie mom to him. :hugs1: :hugs1:
