Ally seems to be shedding quite a bit in the last week. I'm sure it's due to the warming trend we are having here in the southwest corner of the United States. We went from rain and temps in the 70's to no rain and 100's in a matter of a few days! :faint:
Well...here is my question....I don't bathe Ally any more than I have to. We normally go 2-3 months between baths. She's indoors more than she's out and doesn't get dirty so there is no need. BUT....I wondered if I bathed her now that she's shedding will that help or make her shed even more? I don't want to make it worse 'cause she really doesn't need a bath yet.
Wondering minds want to know? :dunno:
What has everyone else experienced with shedding dachsie dogs?

To help removing all dead hair you can just brush her. Also for smooths dachsies you can use pumice stone. Bathing doesn't help with shortening the shedding period.

Alfina is right in that the dog's body controls the shedding. However, you will find that if you bathe them it is easier to get the loose hair out - down the drain rather than in your house. If you use a force air dryer on them in the bath tub, you will find even more of the loose hair blown off in the bath tub than being left on you and the floor. If you don't want to invest in a force air dryer, try and find a do-it-yourself dog wash as they usually supply everything you could need in the way of grooming tools (you bring your shampoo and conditioner) and you can use THEIR force air dryer.

For smooths, you can also use a rubber curry brush in the bath - dogs get very accustomed to the massage and it really pulls out the loose hair.
