I thought I'd ask about my girl's pedigree too?

The breeder's name is Pat Slagel and her kennel was in Indiana.
I'm confused if her kennel's name is Val-Jean or Von Schlegel?

I don't know if Pat Slagel is now retired?

Most of the dachshunds on the pedigree are MW wheaten.

My girl (Funny Girl) came from 'Nuforest', but her sire & dam are from
'Val-Jean'.

Anyone know?

I know a hand full of folks with Pat's pups in their history. These are good quality dogs. Her kennel is Von Schlegel. Likely, Val-Jean is a name from a pup that she purchased at one point and is a combination of the kennel names of the dam and sire. You should email her and ask. I am sure she would be happy to tell you.

You will notice that the website does not show or list puppys or even advertise them for sale. It is just there to show her line. This is one of the signs that she is not a puppy mill and more likely to be a reputable breeder. Seeing the names tha come up with her dogs in their lines also leads me to believe this.

For the link. I've never seen it, and I assumed Pat was retired.
I see what you mean about her listing her lines only.
CH. Hanky Panky is my little girl's sire.
My girl came from 'Nuforest', and their website is advertised like Von Schlegel.
'Nuforest' buried Hanky Panky on their property.
Thanks again for the link! :)
I've never had a Wirehaired. Funny Girl (my girl) is a red smooth, but her
sire & dam were Wire's.

someone would be able to help you.
I have been searching online for a picture of Winston, he is from the Lucene line. He is Kampers daddy.
Havent come up with one yet.
He is a gorgeous standard smooth Red.
His mom Greta, is a beautiful b/t smooth standard. Both of Kampers parents were very big standards and that explains his size.
Some of his litter mates are even bigger than him, especially the long hairs.

I don't really know anything about the Lucene line but she is in California and we don't get too many dogs from the West Coast in this area. Here is her site though.

Heidi, and they are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
No wonder why your Kamper is beautiful! :D
I used to live near them in San Diego.
When I had Freddie (now gone), I took him to 'Blue Ribbon Grooming'.
The owner, Lori, is a breeder and has some of 'Lucene's' dogs.
Lori's breeding program is mentored from Lucene's.
She has 1-2 litters a year, and is well-planned with a long 'wait list'.
Lori gave me a couple of her pedigrees and WINSTON was on there.

Zandra beat me to it on giving you the link to Lucene's. LOL

I would LOVE to have a Lucene's dachshund!
But, I have a feeling Jeanine Sudinski leans toward giving her dogs to 'show prospects'.
Plus, I am sure her dogs cost $$$$.

Personally, I think Lucene's is the perfect example of what 'Standards'
should be! They are the best! :)

It's a small world, huh?

Thank you for posting the link for the site. Now that is a lady that loves Dachsies'. Did you see Ringo in the year 2000 that standard red is seriously shining so much so he does not look like a real dog. OMG I have never seen a coat that shiney. I am really impressed, and in awe of this lady and her love and dedication to these little guys

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: for Lucene and her dedication

truly the best looking standards, I have ever seen.
But she has alot of experience and has been doing this for a long long time.
When you look at the website, you cannot help but be wowed by all the beautiful and handsome dogs she had over the years. :bowing2: :bowing2:

Val-Jean is the kennel name of a lady now gone. Pat Slagal was, in her very competitive working years <G>, a professional handler and handled all of Val-Jean's dogs. I believe Pat is now retired from professional handling. Pat based her breeding on Val-Jean lines. I don't know if they were partners or she just utilized the dogs she thought were good from (darn I wish I could remember her real name) Val-Jean's lines.

All of Pat's dogs are registered as wheatens and Pat and I have spent YEARS discussing this color of hers. At the DCA in California we mutually decided to agree to disagree BUT she also said she was willing to go along with a compromised description that they are red wheatens (You see, I don't believe wheaten should be the registered color <G> as it is a dilute of red....not cream but a dilution. The banding on most *wheatens* is very short for the red coloration but very long for the diluted color *blonde/white/creamy white*. However, the darker band IS there in the beginning.) Unfortunately, many times the dilution factor also takes away the texture from the coat except in Pat's line. However, there is another coloration factor in her coats that I have yet to figure out because I don't see her dogs that often anymore now that I live in the South.....many truly aren't banded with a *clear red* but a brownish red if that makes sense....they truly ARE more *wheat* in coloration but she is the only person I know that has this so I think it is in her line.

Nuforest's dogs, when they use their combination of bloodlines, normally do not look like the dogs from Pat Slagal or Val-Jean UNLESS they are strictly that breeding :)

You might be surprised by what Mrs Sudinski (who is a dachshund judge) or her daughter would charge for puppies :) Keeping in mind, of course, that the people on either coast charge more for their dachshunds on the whole, it NEVER hurts to inquire!!

<Tracy's random side thought on this subject>

Wow. Valjean. I wish I'd thought of that name for Mr. Butters. I love Victor Hugo, and I love Les Miserables. Jean Val-jean. That would have been a sweet dachshund name...
