My dog loves to lick us! Any exposed skin gets the licking of a lifetime. Any ideas about why he loves to lick? Is this a doxie thing? A dominance thing? Just curious!
The licking thing is amazing. My little baby Madalyn is a year old and she must give us lots and lots of sugar, and not just us either she likes to share the love.
Now our Madalyn likes to give face kisses but my in-laws dachshund is much more systematic about the whole thing. Like you mentioned any exposed skin is fair game. He will start like at your ankle and work up to you knee, but the funniest thing is the need he has to lick my Father-in-Law's head. It is a nightly ritual and Grounder (my brother-in-law, dachshund) starts to get really upset if he can't lick his head.
They love to show the affection!

One of my two doxies, Dasher, does the same thing. If you don't stop him he would lick you constantly. It is a behavioral trait. Some doxies are more quirky or excentric than others. I love that about them though. It is really not a good idea to let the licking go on for an extended period of time. I believe dominance issues can arrise in some cases or there are already some.
Anyway enjoy your bath! he he Stephanie

Our Rusty and Duffer don't lick a whole lot but Hobbs definitely makes for for both of them. He would lick until his tongue fell out - and everyone is fair game - even our cat. Good thing the cat's got such a great temperment - he's 17 lbs. and poor Hobbs is only about 9 lbs.
