I'm curious about sizes. All of our puppers are over the 15 pound mark. One was a rescue from the woods - we had no clue what size he'd be. Another was our disaster with a pet store ( we learned our lesson). So, what size puppers do you have?

Brekke is a dainty and delicate 10 pounds. Her daddy calls her "fuzzball" and she loves it! Her long hair is finally beginning to lie smooth and beautifully - and she's almost 4!

Tasha is a tweenie, weighs 14 or 14.5 depending on the time of year. She's so long that we suspect that she's the runt of a standard litter.

which I think was last August, they were 12.5lb and 9.6lb. They were then 15 months old... so might have filled out just a little more.
Angel is a muscular tweenie (GIRL POWER :D ) and Cassie is mostly composed of fluff and mischief.

I wanted MINIS! I wanted MINIS! Just goes to show, you don't always get what you want! Ruben weighed over 15# and Trenyce over 13 recently. So much for my minis. Drat. Oh well, I think I'll keep 'em anyway. :hug2:

Well lets see Daphne is a caloricly challenged mini who weighs tooooo much.
Gateway is a tweenie who was sold to us (over the internet) I know I know bad idea, as a mini. As soon as I got him off the plane I knew they lied to me. But I fell instantly in LOVE with him so there was no going back.

Well I have two minis Jimmy is 10 lbs and malibu is probalby closer to 9 now that she is fixed, she is getting a little tummy.
Raider is about 30 lbs right now and he is 4 1/2 months old. So he is really only a dachsie wanna be. Not even close to a dachsie size. He is an australian shepard/border collie mix. :) but he acts like the other two.

Olana is about 12-13 lbs now. She is supposed to be a standard. But our vet said she is basically almost full grown. I voted Standard, but maybe she'll be a tweenie when all is said and done.
When do they stop growing? Olana is 8 months old now.

Merry is 9
Bart is 10.5
Badger is 12 .. his papers say MW so he's just a big mini :) Which is good cause that's one of the reasons I was able to get him after he was finished showing.

My two girls, Vienna and Stella are 10 pounds or under.
I try to keep them at that weight.
People always remark when they see mine, on how they usually see dachshunds that are much heavier. I hate seeing overweight dogs.
I want them to be healthy, so I don't indulge them in goodies that would add weight.
They both do agility and the extra weight would be a hazard for them.

Rocky when going through the adoption process we were told he's a large mini...well at 20 pounds I don't think so he's a standard.
I call her my little girl and he's my big boy.

...because Schroeder is only 5 months old, but he's already at the top of the mini scale. Last time he was weighed was close to a month ago...was 10 lbs then. I suspect he's picked up at least another pound or two since. Looks like we'll have a tweenie or a small standard which is exactly what we wanted! :) Need to invest in a swinging gate for our kitchen...he's getting too heavy to lift over the current one.

Lulu is a borderline mini @ 12 lbs
Sophie is a tweenie @ 17 lbs (she needs to lose a couple, we're trying)
Foster Yogi is a small standard he weighs 17 lbs, but could gain a couple and probably will living here. And foster Coco is a tweenie @ 12 lbs, but could also gain a little.

Well when I got Bailey from the breeder he was suppose to be a mini lol. Well the parents were both under 10 pounds but Bailey is almost 16 pounds. He is not over weight though according to the vet and he is much longer than his parents. Just goes to show you that we don't know everything about genetics. I did mention that to the breeder thougth and she told me I was feeding him too much . I just had to laugh!!!

Neither of mine are fully grown yet but I am guessing they wil both be tweenies. The oldest one already is at close to 12 pounds and 7 1/2 mos old. The little one is about 5 lbs and is not yet four months.Tweenies is what we wanted so I am happy.:D
I am figuring they will top out at about 14 pounds or so unles they get too fat. They may end up being standards, which would be ok with me too. None of the parents were standards but that does not seem to matter.

Ivy Ann is up to 22 lbs
Con Man is 19 lbs
Zorba the Beastie is 18 lbs
Ivy and Con are standard breeding. Zor was suppose to be a mini. Ya right Mini Mini Ha Ha...... Zorba doesn't look like his papa....
Oh well just more to love. But I really wanted a mini so I could be able to carry him easier. My first mini was only
8.5 lbs. That was a perfect size to cuddle on my lap and still have room for the others.

1 true mini @ 9 pounds (Heinzy)
2 tweenies @ 15 pounds each (Topper and Gizmo)
1 small standard at 17-18 pounds (Prince)

When I adopted Mazzy she was 8.5 lbs. but backbone & ribs showing. She now weighs 13 lbs., but could probably lose a pound or two. So I'm not sure what classification that puts her in. I guess a mini on the cusp.:D

Taffy is a mini chocolate chip at 10 pounds. Daisy is a small standard, maybe? She will be a year old on the 27th, and she weighs 14 pounds.

Petey just turned 6 months old and is around 10 lbs, so I really have no idea where he'll end up...probably as a tweenie. He's muscling up now, even struts his bad self around like a weightlifter :D

Annie is 15 and a half, about the size of a 4-month-old baby! I swear -- every time I pick her up, I get the same sensation I did when my son was a baby... That's part of her appeal, I'm sure!

I just checked with a breeder about where Tweenies come from. Are they runty standards or giant minis. The breeder says that all the size groups started with standards, and that minis are the result of many generations of taking the smallest two dogs in a group and breeding them. So even small dogs carry the genetic potential to "throw a standard." Tweenies can be the smallest in a litter of standard parents or the biggest in a litter of minis parents.
As with coat color and texture, there's just a lot of variation in dachshunds -- one of their charms, I think.

Maisie has officially eaten her way from tweenie to small standard. Now she fully fits the breed-standard of a dachshund. :party6: :D
My "ugly dachsie" - a.k.a. Daytona - weighs in at 165 pounds and Tessa is a not so close second at about 85 pounds. :)

I'm not voting yet. GingerSnap is almost 8 pounds at almost 14 weeks, and growing at an unpredictable rate. I think she's going to be a tweenie though. Supposedly her parents were both Minis, but she's not built like a dainty little mini!

Sophie is 8.5lbs and Rambo got weighed last week but he had his harness/halter vest on and weighed 11.5 but I think he's 11 both my pups weight always are fluxuating, (depending if they went potty, just ate or not or if they didn't feel like eating etc) So both are minis

Little Jimmy is my mini at 10 lbs. Chubby Chili is my supposed to be mini. He weighed in at 15 lbs last week at his yearly vet visit. The vet told me he is a good weight and that there is just more of him to love :Sun2: When they gave me my bill, I suggested they remove the word miniature from his description. There is nothing mini about him.
lovingthumper
05-24-2007, 07:09 PM
Thumper should be mini, however; at 13 weeks he weighs in at 4.5lbs. I think by the time he is 1 he will be a tweenie.

Yeah, well our guys aren't anywhere nearly done with growing, but the vet says they don't put on too much weight after about 6 months.
Sukoshi is right at 7 months old and weighed 8lbs the last time we were at the vet last month (don't think she's any heavier now) she had major starvation issues as a pup at the pet store.
Lex, our spolied one since birth, weighed 5.8lbs at a little under 3 months last month. I think he will be bigger then Sukoshi, but maybe still a mini, his growth is slowing down some, and he's a loooong pup. (the vet remarked on that fact first time he saw him at about 6 weeks)

Wow this is an old poll, as I was reading through it I noticed the dates. lol Anyhow Lexie is a tweenie as her ideal weight is around 13 to 14 lbs or so. Logan is a mini at 9 lbs on his fat days. Dexter is a min-tween too he fluctuates between 11 and 12 lbs. Pippin is a mini at 9.75 lbs.

Jäger is a mini long and his dad is 10lb so he shouldn't be over that, though he's still a 4 mo old puppy weighing in at 6.5. We had wanted a standard as we prefer bigger dogs but 1. they're hard to find and many are poor quality 2. one look at that adorable and happy face, so excited he couldn't sit still, and we just had to take him home :sillylove: Some day we're hoping to get standards but for now, we just love and adore our mini baby!!

My Oscar (1 year old) is a tweenie. He weighs between 13-14 lbs. He was supposed to be a mini ... and is by far the largest of his litter of 3. His parents are small ... his siblings are small ... go figure.
My Gretel is only 7 months old, and weighs 10 lbs. I think she will be a miniature. She is very dainty and petite in comparison to Oscar's size at her age.
