I have read the posts from you guys about how your pups rip through a stuffie in a day, and I thought to myself, wow, I am glad Bailey doesn't do that...well, guess what?
It's happening...
We have a few of those fat cat toys, the ones made of the hard canvas with the crunchies in them...well, the frog lasted a good 6 months, and when it was dead on Monday, I went and got a new one, a skunk one. Well, yesterday was the first day he had it, and last night he ripped off an ear.:dunno1:
Any suggestions on dachsie proof stuffies? :dizzy:

Well, the 3 Dog Bakery toys that Will'em was testing in the thread below are still doing pretty well. One is missing a foot(and squeaker) and an ear, but otherwise they are still in good shape after 3 weeks and Will'em is a super destuffer!

The only toys that seem to last with my Dachshund,Chloe, I buy from activek9.com .They are made by Combat, and are made of a very , tough material. Only my Dachsund that likes to destroy toys will play with them.

I found them at Big Lots and also saw some at Petco.

We have a collection of various arms, legs, heads, and other body parts all over the place. Not many toys make the grade. Most end up in the trash can.
My dogs won't play with the Combat toys. I've ordered several. Now, these toys they will play with and fight over, but they are sort of weird looking. However, they do not destruct. The address is: Fat Cat Inc (http://www.fatcatinc.com/html_site/dogs.shtml), but I see the toys at all the pet stores around me. PetSmart and Petco carry them; just not quite the collection shown on the web site.

I'm happy to see I'm not the only one with this issue, Clay has had some of her toys since her arrival (nearly 3 years ago) she's very good with them....Rocky eats everything...and yes I mean eats not chews, he'll pass stuff (I have to watch what he has, but he'll take Clays toys).
Has anyone tried the Petlane products or Shurepets (those are the home party lines however I see you can shop on line) On tv those are suppose to be a pretty tough toy.

Well, this is part of the breed characteristic. Dachshunds are bred to hunt prey much larger than themselves (namely badgers!) and they hunt in pairs usually. They will go right down the hole after the badger and fight him on his own grounds (undergrounds?--sounds like something used to make weak coffee ;)).
Terriers are the only other dogs bred to hunt underground, but terriers will usually simply drive the animal back up the burrow to face the hunter's guns. Terriers also do not hunt prey twice their size and hunt singly. The dachshund, in order to acheive this goal, has to have a predatory instinct which involves ripping his prey apart. The dachshund is most unhappy if the hunter kills the prey using guns, and usually will not give the hunter the opportunity to do so. He much prefers to rip him apart, one limb at a time. This is why they hunt in pairs. They use each other's grabbing/ripping/shaking motions as leverage for their own energy.
Have you ever seen two dachshunds go at a large toy together. If you have, then you know what I mean.

Oh dear, sorry about the skunk. Bailey must be in a destructive mode, poor guy! I have ordered toys from this site: dogs.com (http://www.dog.com/toys.asp). The Hide-a-Squirrel toy has held up very well, and both dogs love to find them in the tree. The Silly Sounds Off under the plush toys are true winners at our house. We have the duck and the cat, and both of them have held up for months. Neither has a squeaker but some sort of box instead. Our dogs haven't chewed them out yet, and the duck especially sounds like the real thing.

I've given up on stuffed squeeky toys. I found some rubber squeekies at Walmart for 92 cents and Pippit LOVES them!! They are stuffed with something like foam to give them some "body" and they are great! He has about 6 of them and his oldest one is from December. They are awesome!

Ours also destroy every toy with a squeaky inside of it within minutes.
Two things that have worked for us are raquetballs and old tube socks with plastic grocery bags stuffed inside. The noise of the plastic is enough to keep their attention, but not enough for them to want to rip into it, like the squeaky does.

The only two stuffies that Schatz has not torn to shreds are two fleece type cows by Hartz. I got them at WalMart for about $4. He has destroyed every other toy brought into the house. I'm thinking about buying several more. He also has yet to destroy the Kong Ball. He did eat the Puppy Kong, which I found out after the fact! :blah:

My guy is a toy killer. He handled Fat Cat (Big mean kitty, etc) as a puppy, but once he had his adult teeth, that was it. There is a purple, hard plastic squeaky ball (like wiggly-giggly ball, but a harder plastic) that held up, but the noise drove us insane, plus he would make a weird moaning/groaning noise when he played with it, which was even more maddening.
Now the only toys he has are towels, string (usually the kind pulled out of hoodie sweatshirts), and tennis balls. I would recommend 'Air Dog', which makes things out of tennis ball material. Friday seems to not want to kill these, only play. The ring replaced his ball as a favorite fetch toy.

They actually MAKE indestrucable toys??
 Other than Kong, I couldn't suggest anything. Mine have every toy ruined almost immediately.

I have the same issue in my house! We have toy parts in the kid's bedroom closet (to send to grandma to get repaired)! When I go in the closet, they are like "wow, so that's what happened to our toys!!!"

I gave up on stuffies but I want to try again so that Oscar does not get bored. He does get big ropes, bones, Kong and these Mini-footballs that he loves. Sometimes we will play with a Tennis ball but they don't last very long.

When it comes to dachshunds...there may not be any such thing as indestructible toys! They are a determined lot when they set their minds to it. :D

We are slowly but surely dwindling down on our collection of "stuffed" toys. We have a few fat cat toys, but those are not the favorites. Squishy ones, that are easy to squeek seem to be the favs. I'll have to find some cheap somewhere and stock up. We only leave the fat cat toys with them during the day while we are at work.

Take some old tube socks, stuff it with plastic grocery bags, tie the sock.
Mine like the crunchy sound, and don't destroy them too quickly.
Someone told me they rip into the squeaky toys quicker because they think it's prey, and their instincts kick in. I don't know about that, but I know squeaky toys don't last very long around our house. Every once in a while one will last longer than the others, but not often.
As for balls, raquetballs work great!

:faint: :fierce:    :dunno: Yeah that'll be the day.
If Ruben can't destroy it, he will not touch it!
In fact...just yesterday, I had to throw away the SECOND "talk to me treat ball" Get this, it's a hard plastic ball filled with treats. First I gave up on batteries, because they cost as much as the ball, and he was going though a set each WEEK! So I just put a couple of treats in it each day. What did he do to destroy it? He chewed around the part that you hold to twist it closed, so that he finally got it to not close anymore. :devil1: Yesterday it was wide open and there was no way to close it anymore. I don't think there is any sense in bying a third one, now that he's figured out how to open both he's had.
We've spent a fortune on toys for that little boy! :bowing2: I do keep trying too  :smash: Stupid me.

neither of my two kill their toys on purpose. The only toy I had to put away was really a kid's toy but Mitzi fell in love with it so I went out and got her one too. It was a talking Stitch stuffed animal. I got one for my cousin and Mitzi thought it was for her and she was so excited. Spoilt my baby no way!! Any way on it's head are these retractable antenna and they have a hard tube in the head so they go in and out. Well Mitzi has torn up around them and destuffed his head. But, hey he's lasted years so I can't complain plus he was on clearance for 3 bucks (heck that's cheaper then most dog toys).

Bobbie has squeaky balls (made by Hartz) that she LOVES...There is enough stuffing around the squeaky part so that she can't get to it each time she squeaks it & it presents enough of a challenge for her to work on it without getting to the squeaky part immediately. I think they were only $2 at WalMart.
She loves to kill stuffies; so we've stopped buying stuffies. The Hartz squeaky balls and Nylabones are the only lasting toys at our house! Everything else was killed within 20 min.
