I got an email today from Kay that said Snooter had been run over by her neighbors. He was a very young boy, who would have been 2 yrs old in September. He will be missed very much by his Mom, Kay. Kay wrote me every week while Snooter was here asking me how he was doing and how much she missed him. Snooter was a littermate with Bacardi, Nadia and Tanqueray.
Run and Play sweet boy, we will see you sometime in the future.

Oh no! How terrible! I'm so sorry for Kay- that's got to be the worst feeling. I'm sure he had the best two years a dog could ask for here.

I found out early this morning that Kay's rescue Fiona died on the table having surgery for a tumor they found that was Cancerous about two weeks ago. Kay is beside herself with grief, as would be imagined. I have known Kay for many years. A better person would be hard to find. She is active with DRNA doing transports, fostering, screening homes and placing dachshunds. She has adopted several herself. Fiona was fondly known for having 9 lives. When she came into rescue she was given 6 months to live, this was about 8 years ago. She had seen many trials and tribulations in the past 8 years and finally gave up the battle. She had a wonderful life full of love and devotion by her Hoomom Kay. My heart is breaking for Kay. Fiona and Snooter (aka Seamus) was laid to rest in Kay's Rainbow Garden.

That is really hard. When you lose one, it is hard enough, but to lose two in such a short time is horrible. Sending hugs and healing rays to Kay through you.

I got a bit more info on what happened to Snooter. I still haen't discussed it with his Mom because I am sure she cannot discuss it. One of my thoughts was why he was out of the yard to get ran over. It turns out he was IN the yard and the vehicle backed up over the fence where Snooter was at (likely barking at them). I do not know Kay's set up so I have no idea if she has a privacy fence or a chain link fence only that Kay heard a Crash (makes me think it was privacy) and she ran out to find Snooter trapped under it and already dead. It is fortunate that he was the only one near the fence when it happened as I know Kay has several babies, including one of Nadia's puppies that she was holding for her friend, until her friend got settled into her new home. I guess Reuben has settled in at Kay's and with the loss of Snooter, I guess he will now be staying with Kay. The people who ran over the fence just "Hit and Run". They never stopped, I guess it was either someone visiting the neighbors or just turning around. Kay doesn't know WHO they was. I talked with Kay's friend tonight (who gave me all the info) and she told me Kay was probably going to keep Reuben, because he had settled in there and has bonded with Kay's new show pup she got a couple of months ago. She also said she didn't think she was going to get a dog right away as her move and the new house has not went well, lots of unforeseen problems that needed more of her attention than she had planned. Leslie was originally going to get Bacardi and Reuben. She needed several months for me to hold them so I decided to start showing Bacardi while she was moving and getting the fence installed. Then she told me perhaps two dogs would be a bit much to start out with, so she decided to only take Reuben, I told her that was fine since I decided to start showing Bacardi. I guess all things happen for a reason. My friend was meeting up with Kay and took Snooter and Reuben to her.
