My darling girl left this world early Sunday morning, just three months shy of her 14th birthday. Those of you who have been hanging around this BB for a while knew Peaches as the "Snood Girl" and as one of the stars of the fabulous Dachsie Follies, produced by Georgette (who, with her sisters, shamelessly stole Peaches's fashion statement for themselves!)
She was a beautiful black-and-tan standard girl who lived for watermelon, belly rubs, microfiber dusting wands, and hunting. She didn't care what she hunted -- cats, squirrels, mice, the occasional bug -- and she was good at it. Totally focused and devoted to her task. She once rooted out a squirrel nest in the wall of a friend's house -- although they have two dogs of their own, they had no idea they were hosting the little family until Peaches came to visit and went berserk at a spot on their outer sunroom wall. If I had known about earthdog trials when she was younger, I'd have signed her up. I believe she could have been a gold medalist!
She was not the most obedient of dogs, although she passed basic and advanced obedience and had her CGC title -- too much classic dachshund in her to really care about obeying! She was feisty, independent, and stubborn, but she was very gentle, especially with kids.
My fondest memories of her are watching her play with stuffed toys on her own, after I had tired of it. She would gallop through the room with the toy in her mouth, toss the toy into the air, catch it, shake it, chew on it, then start all over again. She would do this to the point of collapse. Stubborn, as I said.... :)
She is much missed and was dearly loved by her mommy and "brother," Farfel. We appreciate the kind messages left by our old friends on the BB.
